Approaching Shirley station on the North Warwickshire line is 45047. This was (I think) a train organised by the SLPG formed from the North Warwickshire Line Defence Committee who worked so hard to keep the line open. The train was an excursion from Stratford-upon-Avon to Southport and probably surprised anyone waiting for a train to Moor Street
The view today from here is of a forest of trees above a tall hedge, the line is a complete tree tunnel even in winter.
Each of the houses on the right came with a Banbury pre-cast concrete garage, they look a little like a container dumped in each garden, 43 years on the survivors probably blend in a little better, with our much more chubby cars today it is unlikely any will have a car in them.
45047 was built at Crewe as D69, it entered service from Crewe North depot 18/10/1960. The loco was withdrawn 03/08/1980 and cut at Derby Loco works 01/02/1981

The monument is the tallest stone column memorial structure in the world. It is 15 feet taller than the Washington Memorial in Washington, D.C
