A Crown for Those Who Choose the Dark
They decided she was a villain the moment she stopped begging to be understood.
The crown waited for her in silence, heavy with old intent. It was wrought of dark iron, its spires jagged and unsoftened by time. Where others set jewels, this one bore spiders instead; metal bodies crouched and poised, legs spread in eternal patience. They clung to the crown like truths no one wanted to look at too closely.
She did not hesitate.
Spiders do not rush. They endure. They wait for the world to exhaust itself.
When she lifted the crown, it felt warm, as if it remembered every head it had refused. The spiders caught the low light and swallowed it, dull and watchful, their presence replacing vanity with vigilance. This was not a crown made to be admired. It was made to be feared.
She placed it upon her head and felt the room tense, as though something ancient had chosen sides.
She ruled without apology. Without performance. Every lie spoken in her presence tightened the spiders’ grip. Every betrayal fed them. Villain, they called her, because she remembered. Because she did not forgive for the sake of comfort.
History is kinder to monsters than it is to survivors.
The crown did not make her cruel.
It only recognized her.
And it has never once asked to be removed.
