A hefty SJX with 3 engines and 18 cars approaches the old W&N connection at New Greenpond Jct, as well as one of many bridges across the windy Pequannock river, which would be just behind where i'm standing. Due to more Sparta cars arriving at the Marion interchange, additional power was added for the return trip.
After climbing Sparta Mountain at 1 mph for about 6 hours, SJX finally is at track speed, passing Newfoundland station. Eventually down at Butler WS1 would continue the train east, with SJX crew getting a ride back to Sparta. SJ1 would finally bring the train back up to Sparta later that night.
