Interesting how the sap has focused light into two particular points.

(Peter)

Tonle Sap Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Also called Boeung Tonle Sap, it has one of the world’s most vibrant ecosystems. There are different species of wildlife in and around the lake, which helped to sustain and grow the ancient Khmer civilisation. It's also famous for its fascinating local communities and their floating villages.

Located in Siem Reap, the massive lake is 250 km in length and 100 km across at its widest point, making it seem like an inland ocean because it is impossible to see the opposite shore from ground level. Surprisingly, it's fairly shallow, with a maximum depth of only 10 metres.

This is one of many buckets used to collect sap which is boiled down to make syrup. The "sugar shack" in the background is where its boiled down. There is enough syrup made to have pancake breakfasts that are open to the public. Also included are tours of the big woods where they collect the sap as well as the pioneer village nearby.

What did you miss?. I know it was the three day weekend. I know some were busy. But, without sounding like I'm rubbing it in. Here is what you missed last Saturday night. First, we started with a Sappy dinner at the Claim Jumper restaurant. Our Williams Hall mega meeting started with the hilarious Tex Avery cartoon CHUMP CHAMP with Droopy Poodle. Then THE SECOND HUNDRED YEARS with Stan and Ollie are Prison escapees that turn up at a fancy party held back in the Prison!. The print shown had music provided by the Beau Hunks and clever sound effects. Then Buster Keaton in COPS with live (Better than the other kind) piano score performed by our own Russ Peck. We honored Chuck McCann with a performance by him as Oliver Hardy and Jim McGeorge as Stan from the 1995 International Convention. After an Intermission with LOTS of goodies, I introduced our Special Guest Scott Lewis. Son of Jerry!. He discussed his friendship with Uncle Stan and talked about his famous Dad and his up-coming Documentary. We also saw Jerry Lewis with Bill Richmond imitating Stan. This entire interview will be posted on You Tube very soon. We ended the evening with Stan and Ollie as cops in THE MIDNIGHT PATROL. As a special bonus, I also added The Harmonica scene from PICK A STAR. Great fun, food, friends and frivolity. Special thanks to Russ, Vice Shiek Becky, Scotty Lewis and every Sap who was there in person and in spirit.

Thanks to SAP Bulgaria, we now have a great and well mended garden.

The week was mostly too cold for the sap to run. It came in dribs and drabs throughout the week, but on Thursday the weather warmed up and the sap ran quite well. For a first time experiment in home Maple syrup production, we got about three gallons of sap on the Thursday and the early part of Friday morning. So far I didn't burn any. I figured that if it went well, then next year I could prepare in advance for a more substantial effort. So far, so good.
