Maple sap flows through these tubes in the early spring. Forty gallons of sap will boil down to one gallon of maple syrup.

Jour 5
7h15, on sort pour attendre la navette qui nous amènera jusqu'au port avec nos bagages. On ne sait pas si c'est un bus, un pick up ou quoi que ce soit. On ne sait pas par où l'engin va arriver, on est même pas sur de savoir où l'attendre mais "don't worry" nous disent les chauffeurs de tuk tuk. Bref un quart d'heure après l'heure prévue la navette arrive enfin, un van d'environ 13 places qui est quasiment plein avant notre montée. Nos bagages sont fixées sur le toit, puis on continue la récolte des passagers. On arrive enfin au port dans un van plein à craquer.
On arrive au bateau, on se retrouve à l'étage supérieur du bateau sans abri contre le soleil, sans crème solaire, en plein soleil pour un trajet d'une durée indéterminée (j'avais lu 4 à 7h dans le pire des cas). Le trajet aura duré 7h au final ... avec un rapide arrêt d'une quinzaine de minute en milieu de trajet. C'était, malgré les coups de soleil, une superbe traversée : des villages flottants, des pêcheurs, des "hello" de la part des enfants sur les maisons flottante, toutes sorte de bateaux / barques, la traversée d'une jungle sur l'eau, ...
Une fois à Battambang, on cherche de la crème solaire, ce qui n'est pas le plus facile à trouver là bas, malgré les multiples dépôt de pharmacie qui remplissent les rues.
Puis on va se restaurer au "Tomatoes Guest House". C'est une nouvelle guest house que je recommande c'était bon et pas trop cher, et le personnel très sympa, que demander de mieux !

The Saps At Sea Holiday Banquet in December 1978 in John Locke's living room because the Lyric Pines wasn't built yet!! Some of those in this photo are Marty Bloom, James D Fauset, John Locke, Ed Fetter with Grace, Rebecca Grey, Mort Read and his wife. Mort was a film producer who worked with Lowell Thomas. About a year later he'd hire me and John Field to portray Laurel and Hardy as mice in a series of three PSA TV spots for the California Nutrition Board.

The Tonlé Sap is a combined lake and river system of major importance to Cambodia. The Tonlé Sap is the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia and is an ecological hot spot that was designated as a UNESCO biosphere in 1997. The Tonlé Sap is unusual for two reasons: its flow changes direction twice a year, and the portion that forms the lake expands and shrinks dramatically with the seasons. From November to May, Cambodia's dry season, the Tonlé Sap drains into the Mekong River at Phnom Penh. However, when the year's heavy rains begin in June, the Tonlé Sap backs up to form an enormous lake.
