Chong Kneas the floating village, the Tonlé Sap is the largest lake in South East Asia. Located in Cambodia it is unique because the direction of the water flow changes twice a year. During the dry season, it flows into the Mekong, but during the Monsoon season it flows inland, expanding from 2700 sq. km to 16000 sq. km during this time. Water played a very important part in the ancient Khmer people lives and is remains important in the lives of modern day Cambodian people as well.

A surprise find, but I believe there may be a breeding pair at Terra Cotta Conservation area! I was busy photographing warblers when suddenly I was surprised to hear a tapping sound, low and behold a Yellow Bellied Sapsucker enjoying some sap within close range! Tough lighting conditions (bright sun, harsh shadows) but you take what you can get!

Tonle Sap is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Its size fluctuates between 2,700 sq. km and 16,000 sq. km depending on the season.
It is part of the Mekong river system and functions as a detention basin as the water of the Mekong flows in during the rainy season thereby expanding its size and reducing the risk of flooding in the Mekong Delta that is now part of Vietnam.
The whole lake is designated as a Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO thanks to its high-level of biodiversity. It is surrounded by the flooded forests as you see in the photo, which inundate during the rainy season.
Sap house where the volunteer's boil the sap until it is reduced to maple syrup. Around 40 gallons of sap,,,sometimes 20 to 60 gallons of sap, are evaporated down to one gallon and a 67% to 68% sugar level is reached. Volunteers at Pioneer Village at Caesar Creek Lake burn firewood to boil the sap. The syrup is used in a fund raising pancake breakfast. A lot of hours and a lot of work.

Sap flows through a portion of the outer tree trunk called sapwood. Sapwood consists of actively growing cells that conduct water and nutrients (sap) from the roots to the branches of the tree. During the day, activity in the cells of sapwood produces carbon dioxide.
The internet is such a source of trivia :)
Tree sap dripping from a conifer where a limb had been cut off. I am fascinated by the wrinkly patterns on the sap.
The light kept changing, I couldn't get close enough, the wind almost blew me over.
These metal buckets are collecting sap from maple trees that will be turned into maple syrup by boiling off most of the water in large vats. Buckets were the traditional way to do this but modern operations use plastic bags or use long collection tubes that empty into a common tank. Yesterday was Maine Sugar Sunday when over 100 producers invite the public to visit not only to purchase syrup or other maple products like candy, popcorn, and nuts (all are delicious) but to also view the production facilities. For children there were some special activities. This photo was taken a Goranson Farm in Dresden, Maine. For Werner.
Maine, at 2.2 million L (580,000 US gal), is the the third largest producer of maple syrup after Vermont and New York. The Canadian province of Quebec leads the world in maple syrup production. In 2019 the average price per gallon in the US was $31.

The Common brown lemur (Eulemur fulvus) is a species of lemur in the family Lemuridae. It is found in Madagascar and Mayotte. The common brown lemur lives in western Madagascar north of the Betsiboka River and eastern Madagascar between the Mangoro River and Tsaratanana, as well as in inland Madagascar connecting the eastern and western ranges.
The common brown lemur's diet consists primarily of fruits, young leaves, and flowers. In some locations it eats invertebrates, such as cicadas, spiders and millipedes. It also eats bark, sap, soil and red clay. It can tolerate greater levels of toxic compounds from plants than other lemurs can.
Consistent with its large range, the common brown lemur occupies a variety of forest types, including lowland rainforests, montane rainforests, moist evergreen forests and dry deciduous forests.
They normally live in groups of 5 to 12, but group size can be larger, especially on Mayotte. Groups occupy home ranges of 1 to 9 hectares in the west, but more than 20 hectares in the east. Groups include members of both sexes, including juveniles, and there are no discernible dominance hierarchies.
They are primarily active during the day but can exhibit cathemeral activity and continue into the night, especially during full moons and during the dry season. – Wikipedia
Smile On Saturday-One Single Drop (It resembles a Gum Drop)
I took this photo in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We had two Pinon Trees in our front yard and sometimes the sap would drop from the trees and land on the lower branches.
For 122 Pictures in 2022 #94 "Something you found", this is sap oozing out of a mesquite tree along a trail in the Oso Bay Wetland Preserve" in Corpus Christi, TX. At the moment the severe drought has made the area not much of a wetland, but mesquite (a highly invasive species here), does thrive where there is sometimes water. But where the tree is native, it was used for a number of things, including food (the seed pods), lumber, and the sap was used for both dyes (when mixed with the dark bark) and medicinal purposes. The sap has a remarkable golden red color, and frequently oozes out during the hot summers.
