Across the road and down the prairie trail, a lone tree greets you. There are not many more along this route.

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It covers an area of 19,485 km2 in the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga in northeastern South Africa, and extends 360 km from north to south and 65 km from east to west. The administrative headquarters are in Skukuza. Areas of the park were first protected by the government of the South African Republic in 1898, and it became South Africa's first national park in 1926. To the west and south of the Kruger National Park are the two South African provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. In the north is Zimbabwe, and to the east is Mozambique. It is now part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a peace park that links Kruger National Park with the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe, and with the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique. The park is part of the Kruger to Canyons Biosphere an area designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an International Man and Biosphere Reserve (the "Biosphere"). The park has nine main gates allowing entrance to the different camps. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kruger_National_Park

Amtrak train number 56, the northbound Vermonter from Washington to St. Albans is led by P42DC number 130 dressed in its Phase II heritage paint dating from Amtrak's 40th Anniversary celebration in 2011. The train is at about MP S8.1 on the former Pan Am Southern (nee Boston and Maine) Conn River Mainline which is now owned by MassDOT and controlled and dispatched by Berkshire and Eastern Railroad, the Genesee and Wyoming company which now operates the PAS property as a neutral third party on behalf of owners NS and CSXT.
The train is crossing the First Level Canal in this fascinating post industrial city that was once the paper making capital of the US producing more than 320 tons of predominantly writing paper every day prior to 1900. Today nearly all of the massive mills are abandoned or repurposed though they still provide interest for a seemingly infinite number of unique photo angles.
For those interested, here is one fascinating tidbit of history for you. Anyone who has been to Boston or really anywhere in New England quickly realizes that their is no rational patern to how roads were laid out and there is nary a straight line to be found between two points. Getting anywhere in the area takes far longer than it should and it confounds people from the orderly laid out towns of the American midwest. But Holyoke is different in that it was among the first planned industrial cities in the United States; built in tandem with the Holyoke Dam to utilize the water power of Hadley Falls, it is among the only cities in New England built around a gridded road plan.
Sharp eyes will note a graffiti covered bay window caboose across the canal tucked up alongside a brick warehouse dating from 1870. And if you're wondering about what that odd place is now, your questions can be answered here: www.the-wherehouse.com/ But as for the caboose, I'm not sure of its heritage so if anyone else has more information I'd be most grateful.

There is a saying that the best camera is the one you have with you at the time. In this case it was my phone.
