Im warmen Morgenlicht des 26.07.2021 legt der 4020 308 als S40 21017 nach Wien FJB im Haltepunkt Atzenbrugg einen Halt ein, ehe es für den Triebwagen weiter richtung Tullnerfeld geht.
Neben den Rapsfeldern und nachdem diese verblüht sind, findet man nun ab und zu die für den Mai typischen Mohnblumen auch an Bahnstrecken. Damit steigen wir ein in die Bilder aus dem Urlaub letzte Woche, denn diese schöne Ansammlung fand ich an einem Hügel direkt am Haltepunkt Muckendorf-Wipfing. An der Franz-Josefs-Bahn wollte ich schon lange mal vorbeischauen, unter anderem, weil sich bis dort das Wiener Schnellbahnnetz erstreckt und auf der S40 die 4020er im Jahr 2025 noch relativ zahlreich vertreten sind. Glücklicherweise waren letzten Freitag alle Garnituren auf der Fotoseite Graffitifrei, was alles andere als selbstverständlich ist. Auf S 21038 (Wien Franz-Josefs-Bf > St. Pölten Hbf) war 4020 289 im alten blau-weißen Farbschema unterwegs.
Um ein vernünftiges Bild eines kultigen ÖBB 4020gers zu erwischen ist eigentlich immer Glück vonnöten. Entweder verziert ein großflächiges Graffiti den Triebwagen oder er verkehrt falsch herum, also mit dem Steuerwagen voraus. An einem schönen Frühlingsvormittag wurde bei Zeiselmauer auf die Triebwagenklassiker gewartet und es sollte sich lohnen. Noch vor dem 309 tauchte der im Schrägdesign gehaltene 4020 312 als S40 21023 (St. Pölten Hbf - Wien Heiligenstadt) auf. Das Bild zeigt ihn ebenfalls beim verlassen der Haltestelle Zeiselmauer-Königstetten.

I think this is the pre-facelift model, which makes it 1995-2000? I don't think there's a way of checking anything on Jersey-registered cars.
It was the Jersey plates that drew my attention to it, and I probably wouldn't have taken photos otherwise. I suppose these are becoming rare now though?
I took this photograph at Druids corner during qualifying for the HSCC/TCRE Touring Car Challenge race at the Gold Cup meeting at Oulton Park in August 2018. It’s Jason Minshaw in his 1996 Volvo S40 which has a 4-cylinder inline 2 litre engine.
How not to take a train photo. Dark side wires etc. But it was my very first YN2 painted ngine and I couldn't get another angle.

Equipped with a fairly smoke free Gardner 180 and a man's clutch, this tough old bruiser needs a strong hand (and foot)!

Somua SAu 40
The Somua SAu 40 was a french self propelled gun from the late 1930's, it was developped on the chassis of the Somua S40 to become the cavalery main assault gun along with the ARL 40. One prototype was fully built before the war and the french government officially ordered several of them just after the war broke out. Unofrtunately none of them could be produced before the armistice. According to historical sources the prototype was endivisionned and took part to the last fights in june 1940 before disapearing.
I've managed to make it fit up to 2 figures inside and to have a traversing and elevating main gun, of course the small machinegun turret on the top also rotates 360° and there is a lateral door to access the interior.

Le Somua SAu 40 était un canon d'assaut français datant de la fin des années 30, il fut développé sur le chassis du Somua S40 pour devenir le canon d'assaut de la Cavalerie aux cotés de l'ARL 40. Un prototype fut entièrement construit avant la guerre et le gouvernement français en commanda plusieurs autres juste après que la guerre n'éclate. Malheuresement aucun d'eux ne pu etre produit avant l'armistice. Selon des sources historiques le prototype fut intégré en unité de combat et pris part aux derniers combats en juin 1940 avant de disparaitre.
Le modèle peut inclure 2 minifigures à l'intérieur et possède un canon avec de l'élévation et de la traverse, bien évidemment la tourelle mitrailleuse peut tourner sur 360° et la porte latérale s'ouvre pour accéder à l'intérieur.

The picture above shows another Flickr member about to coax the Beast of Cheshire into action during its short invasion of Yorkshire last year.
Gardner 180 powered and (IIRC) last taxed in 1999, the S40 is an all too rare beast these days.
