Dne 18. června 2023 byl oficiálně ukončen provoz lokomotiv řady 242 v Jihomoravském kraji na linkách S2 a S3 z důvodu nastupujících jednotek řady 530 a 550. Snímek byl zachycen nad viaduktem v Dolních Loučkách pár minut po východu slunce a pár dní před ukončením provozu.
112 166 war hier mit 4 n-Wagen als S-Bahn Ersatzzug unterwegs.
Die Probleme der S-Bahn Hannover dürften mittlerweile weit bekannt sein. Ständige Zugausfälle, verminderte Kapazitäten, Verspätungen bis ins unermessliche und somit verärgerte Fahrgäste, das steht an der Tagesordnung.
Vor einigen Wochen beauftragte Transdev die WFL einen Ersatzzug zu stellen. Dieser lokbespannte Zug verkehrt dabei auf der S-Bahn Linie 3 zwischen Hildesheim und Hannover. Allerdings läuft auch hier nicht alles reibungslos. Lokstörungen gibt es häufig, Türstörungen noch viel öfter.
Trotzdem verkehrt dieser Zug zuverlässiger als die Transdev selbst. Und für Eisenbahnfotografen ist ein roter, lokbespannter Zug im S-Bahn Netz Hannover sicherlich auch eine Bereicherung.
Gerade mal knapp 5 Minuten vor Durchfahrt des Zuges zeigte sich an diesem Tage erstmalig die Sonne. So konnten wir den fröhlich trötenden Zug hier glücklicherweise im herbstlichen Morgenlicht fotografieren. In Kürze wird der Zug die Lehrter Kurve erreichen, und anschließend im Bahnhof Lehrte einen Halt einlegen.

Zwischen Essen-Horst und Hattingen verläuft die Strecke der S3 unmittelbar entlang der Ruhr. Die bis dahin eher unbekannte Stelle an der Schwimmbrücke in Dahlhausen erfuhr im Mai 2020 einen regelrechten Besucheransturm, da sich dort die S3-Ersatzzüge gut festgehalten. So konnte auch dieses Bild entstehen, welches 182 525 am 6. Mai 2020 mit einer S3 nach Hattingen am Haken kurz nach dem Verlassen von Bochum-Dahlhausen zeigt.

Car and strobe provided by And. I strobed the car and then drove away (In my own car) into the vanishing point seen in the image, turned round (got stuck in the mud during this shot) and then drove down The road seen bearing off behind the S3.
Slight edits in photoshop: Cloned out a trail from the LED on the strobe. Added a vignette so the grass wasn't such a distraction.
Strobist: 5-6 flashes on the lowest setting (1/64) to light the area around the car. 3 flashes on 1/2 power to light the car itself.
Kent-Barry-Eaton Connecting Railway S3 #6 sits in Hastings, MI, on a snow-less December day in 1978. Built for the Ann Arbor, #6 served the Annie until 1976, when the state of Michigan purchased the AA and several former Penn Central lines at the eve of Conrail’s inception. The state decided to transfer #6 to the new Kent-Barry-Eaton Connecting, which was taking over operations on the former NYC Grand Rapids branch between GR and Vermontville (which ran in Kent, Barry, and Eaton counties). The country’s first minority-owned and operated Shortline, the KBEC unfortunately was never able to drum up sufficient business on the old NYC, and would cease operations in the early 80s. As for #6 itself, it unfortunately got freeze damage after someone forgot to drain it on a cold night, and never ran again. It was eventually sent back to the Ann Arbor shops in Owosso, parted out, and scrapped.
