Underground viking settlment

Between Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss at Rútshellir, there is an isolated old village hall / community centre. No buildings anywhere nearby. It's totally derelict now but there's even what appears to be a really old 1950s amplification system under the stage. I'd love to know more about the place.

Rutshellir, ancient caves

Rutshellir, ancient caves more recently (1912) built up and used to store hay, and perhaps house a smithy.

Rútshellir (Rútur’s Cave) is said to be the oldest extant man-made residence in Iceland. The name derives from a certain Rútur who is supposed to have lived there in olden times, and the cave was inhabited over the centuries.

An old cave with some man-made galleries inside it (on private land) next to Route 1 on the south coast.
