June 10th (Judy Garland's birthday) the retro characters first made a comeback to Land of Oz since 1975. Costumes made by Billy Ferguson.

I was so excited to find them ( at a costume store) until I realized they were all very uncomfortable. :-(

One of the several pairs of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in the 1939 classic film, "The Wizard of Oz." The description at the bottom said that these were worn by her during her dancing scenes (i.e. "Follw The Yellow Brick Road.") because the felt soles muffled her footsteps. (By the way, in the oiriginal book, they were silver, but they changed it to ruby to take advantage of the then-new Technicolor film.)

Okay, I must admit that although I am Jewish, I had never heard of this saying until last week, when my friend Corey-Jan asked me to make something up for her temple. She had the (brilliant, methinks) idea of changing the word 'rubies' to 'ruby slippers', but I couldn't get the slippers on the lady's feet, so I put them on her dress instead. I love it that way! Very Dorothy meets Barbra, I believe...

How 'bout you - do you know of a woman of valor?

My first project for the Altered Minds group here in Lake City. I was a bit taken aback at the thought of altering a shoe but when I saw this shoes at a second hand store i was instantly inspired because i wanted to put a photo in the shoe. These had never been worn..I can't imagine why... :)

This is the last of the Oz characters that I set my goal to create into a felt pin. Dorothy has red glitter vinyl for her ruby slippers and behind the rainbow. The rainbow is felt stitched together with a blanket stitch. Dorothy comes from a fat quarter of Oz medallion fabric, and she is stitched to a gray felt background. She is forever thinking of home.

Almond Milk, my moho hair (custom made by Poupée Mécanique Leo and a tiny bit by me) is modeling Dorothy Gale outfit from Wizard of Oz. I am dubbing this Malibu Dorothy because of Almond's complexion.;)

I am going to bring four of these to Seattle.
