As soon as the sun is really there, the first athletes came. The rowers were coached from a motorboat. When the athletes drove off, the engine of the escort boat gave out. Luckily there was a second boat.

This is a picture of a man rowing down the canal in the centre of Copenhagen I took back in 2018. The setting sun covered the water in a golden light and mystic feel. Despite a lot of people all around the scene, I think it looks quite calm and removed from the hectic around.
The colors of fall are finally reaching into Manhattan and Central Park is a beautiful place to take them all in.
Common Mergansers are not very common in my area.
I consider myself lucky to have spotted this female Merganser on a small local lake.
It's funny when you see a photo posted by a fellow photographer of a place they recently visited and it immediately reminds you of a time when you visited it with your camera.
In this case the photographer is Phil Norton and I shall post his image below in the comment boxes. He's a Nisi Ambassador so if anyone requires any information on filters, he's a great guy to ask.
The place is the little fishing tarn of Llyn Y Dywarchen in Snowdonia. The date was Saturday 5th August 2011, the time 10pm. I visited this wonderful little place and decided that the rowing boats needed some illumination, so out came the head torch and fifteen seconds later, voilà

Members of Catterline Coastal Rowing Club in one of their skiffs. They row along the North East coast between Catterline and Stonehaven, and take part in local events, races and regattas.
This scene from the canal at Korenlei in Ghent captures the essence of the city's medieval charm. The bridge in the foreground elegantly frames the waterway, while the Gravensteen Castle rises proudly in the background, a reminder of Ghent's medieval power and its role as a political and economic center in Flanders. The canal itself, once vital for trade and transport, remains a central artery of the city, now carrying leisure boats and kayaks rather than merchant vessels.
The architecture along the Korenlei showcases the ornate gabled facades typical of the Flemish Renaissance style. These former guild houses reflect the prosperity of Ghent's merchants and craftsmen during the Middle Ages, with each facade designed to impress and assert status. The combination of brickwork, stone details, and decorative elements illustrates the city's layered history, blending Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque influences within a compact urban space.
Tourism thrives in this area, as visitors are drawn to the picturesque setting and the lively atmosphere of the canal. Boat tours depart from this quay, offering views of Ghent's skyline from the water, while the bridge serves as a perfect vantage point for photography. The mix of historic monuments, waterways, and vibrant street life makes Korenlei one of the city's most photographed and walked-through places, both by day and illuminated at night.
Gastronomy is also deeply tied to this part of Ghent. The terraces along the canal host cafés and restaurants where visitors can enjoy local specialties such as waterzooi, a creamy fish or chicken stew originating from Ghent to indulge in Belgian beers brewed with centuries-old traditions. The combination of fine dining and casual street food adds flavor to the experience, making Korenlei not only a visual feast but also a culinary one.

We went for a walk along the Thames again yesterday, near Bray. We ended up at Eton Rowing Club.
For those who have never heard of it Eton College is a boy's school founded in 1440 by King Henry V1 and frightfully posh don't you know:-) If you want to send your child there it will cost around £24,490 or $54,000 dollars per year - yes you read that correctly, per year!
Long before Jagger & Co there were the Rowing Stones. This group formed at the beginning of the 20th century and were the impetus for many groups that followed. Google them. I'm sure there's much written about this iconic group.
