ACCESS New Release 12th Open✨

Cyberpunk cities and neon back alleys.

I imagined an inorganic room in an apartment.

It is similar to Skybox because it has 4 walls, and you can take the side walls with the mod version to get a side view or photograph the room from the side.

I think I took the challenge too seriously today. Things I would rather have never existed? Evil. Pestilence. Pain. Hunger, Poverty, Death. Hell, put them on horseback and get all Biblical.

It's cold and wet, and dark today. The clouds are hanging low in the sky. I saved lives today, and I lost. I'm standing in a cold studio in my overcoat. The Winter brings a time of reassessment and reflection for me. I listen to my friend Zack's short film for yet another year. And I must think of something I would rather never existed?

Everything has a purpose. All these terrible things bring renewal, space, light life and appreciation, just like a cold Winter brings the flowers of Spring and the harvest of Summer and Fall. Perhaps God prepares us for Death with Winter.

It would be easy to say War. Who would not rather War never existed? What would men do? Build roads? Humans are war machines. We even earmark our history with wars rather than discovery and progress. Why is that? I do not think I could wish away War without wishing away humanity. Even war brings renewal of society and the good of mankind.

But....... If there were no armies...... Ah..... If there were no armies, every dictator, every despot, president, prime minister, monarch, mullah, tyrant and other ringmasters of war would have to do their own fighting. No young men would be sent to untimely deaths on foreign soil in the name of patriotism, religion and the lies and greed of old men. The struggle for power would be up close and personal and the warring nature of man would extinguish itself through natural selection. And perhaps there would be justice in it all. And with justice, the pain of war and death would make it understandable.

Question: “In a world where dice didn’t exist, which flag would have one fewer star?"

Answer: Chicago

Defense: "Without dice, kids would not have been playing craps in a barn in Chicago, run off to avoid being caught, and knocked over a lantern, starting the Great Chicago Fire. Chicago's flag has four stars, the second of which symbolizes the fire. It would now have only three.”

-- from a 2010 discussion on “The Straight Dope” discussion boards about the Counterfactuals game from Big Bang Theory. The poster who came up with this clever submission was “jackdavinci”.

In George Orwell’s city of Oceania the Ministry of Love will help each person who has "doublethink". Anyone who does not cooperate is sent to Room 101. You do not want to be sent there.

For We’re Here!, visiting Room 101

The room in my photograph actually exists, and the contents are real. The room is not open to the outside, however. I have manipulated the image, essentially turning the building “inside out”, so you can see the room.

On Feb. 9, 1891, career criminal William Roe and a hapless acquaintance named Carl Schmidt, travelled to Napa, California and brutally murdered Lucina Greenwood in a botched burglary attempt at her home, the Greenwood Mansion. Willliam Roe became the last person to be hanged in Napa County, on the very gallows you see here. It is housed in a small museum on the first floor of the Sheriff’s Office near the Napa Airport. The Greenwood Mansion is just down the street on Devlin Road. It is now vacant and rumored to be haunted. See photo in the first comment box below. A detailed account of the murder and somewhat bizarre follow-on events can be read here:

our local pizza man was recently found in a very distressed state.

apparently he had anchovies, olives and a liberal helping of sweet corn on his head .

he tried to "top" himself.

Today the Hereios of the We're Here! group are nominating items for Room 101. Parking on pavements is one of my pet peeves. All too often such drivers leave people with little room to pass along the footway, even those without a buggy or wheelchair.

I've anonymised the Land Rover because the driver is no more of a culprit than the many other people who park selfishly.

With a small gesture the officer indicated the skull-faced man.

‘Room 101,’ he said.

There was a gasp and a flurry at Winston's side. The man had actually flung himself on his knees on the floor, with his hands clasped together.

[...]

'You asked me once, what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world'.

Cold callers who keep their number hidden should go into Room 101.

The problem is that my home is number withheld because of our jobs, and work is number withheld because it's a hospital. So I always have to answer when this comes up.

I think all cold callers would have an identifiable prefix so you can ignore them and block them.

Some of you may have realised that this is not in my native tongue. I am learning Spanish (very slowly) so the kids have changed my phone to Spanish. It's very annoying, especially as it also does predictive text in Spanish!

Update (3 Feb 2017): as seen on Room 101! Our pic is now famous 😃

Tuesday 7th November 3pm , the statues of author and essayist

Eric Arthur Blair, better known by his pen name George Orwell, was an English novelist, essayist, journalist, and critic. His work is marked by lucid prose, awareness of social injustice, opposition to totalitarianism, and outspoken support of democratic socialism

the inscription reads "If liberty means anything at all it means the right to tell people what they dont want to hear" .

the statue is placed close to the BBC office that inspired the 1984 novel of dystopia J and state repression and the room 101 .a room that holds everything you fear,

"Orwell's work continues to influence popular and political culture, and the term Orwellian – descriptive of totalitarian or authoritarian social practices – has entered the language together with many of his neologisms, including Big Brother, Thought Police, Room 101, memory hole, newspeak, double think, proles, unperson, and thought crime"

quotes taken from Wikipedia.

A statue of George Orwell by the British sculptor Martin Jennings was unveiled on 7 November 2017 outside Broadcasting House, the headquarters of the BBC, in London.

The wall behind the statue is inscribed with George Orwell's words "If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear", from an unused preface to Animal Farm. The head of BBC history, Robert Seatter, said of Orwell and the statue that "He reputedly based his notorious Room 101 from Nineteen Eighty-Four on a room he had worked in whilst at the BBC, but here he will stand in the fresh air reminding people of the value of journalism in holding authority to account" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_George_Orwell

This is a Whiteway Publications Ltd postcard from 1984 which was one of a series showing 'Punks' in various parts of central London. The location of this photograph is Broad Court which runs at the side of Bow Street Magistrates Court and I think the Police Constable is probably stationed at Bow Street Police Station which adjoined the Magistrates Court. The photographer was Joe Cornish who later became a famous Landscape Photographer. The 'Punk' girls are named in another postcard but I don't know which is which, Juju and Lizzie. You can still see 'Punks' in London over forty years since their heyday. I agree with Danny Baker about 'Punk', it was and still is overrated, watch this clip from a recent edition of Room 101.

...it does not matter if the war is not real, or when it is, that victory is not possible. The war is not meant to be won. It is meant to be continuous. The essential act of modern warfare is the destruction of the produce of human labor. A hierarchical society is only possible on the basis of poverty and ignorance. In principle, the war effort is always planned to keep society on the brink of starvation. The war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects. And its object is not victory over Eurasia or Eastasia, but to keep the very structure of society intact

Pera Palas Hotel on Meşrutiyet Street in Tepebaşı opened in 1895 to host high-class passengers of the Orient Express train. The hotel was designed in neo-classical style by architect Alexandre Vallaury who was living in Pera, a distinguished neighbourhood with a view of the Golden Horn, at the time. The hotel received well-known and even royal guests including Queen Elizabeth II, Agatha Christie, Alfred Hitchcock, and Ernest Hemingway among many others. After 1917, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk stayed on numerous occasions in room 101, which in 1981 was converted into a museum, displaying Atatürk’s personal properties. Pera Palas was recently restorated and re-opened in 2010.
