The Lotus Esprit is a sports car that was built by Lotus Cars at their Hethel factory in the United Kingdom between 1976 and 2004. It was among the first of designer Giorgetto Giugiaro's polygonal "folded paper" designs. Giugiaro wanted to call the car "Kiwi", but the Lotus tradition of having all car model names start with the letter "E" won out, and the name became Esprit.

Launched as Aston Martins flagship model, sharing the Bill Towns designed body and the DBS name with the six cylinder DBS. The body was a modern reinterpretation of the traditional Aston Martin look, with a squared-off grille and four headlights. Distinguishing features of the V8 model are the larger front air dam and lack of wire wheels, though some six-cylinder DBS cars also used the V8's alloy wheels.
Powered by a Tadek Merek designed 5.3 litre V8 engine with Bosch fuel injection. No power output figures were released but are probably around 315bhp.
A DBS V8 was to be used by Roger Moore in the television show, The Persuaders! However, no V8 car was ready, so a six-cylinder DBS was modified to look like a V8 for use in the show.

The Volvo P1800 (pronounced eighteen-hundred) is a 2+2, front-engine, rear-drive sports car manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars between 1961 and 1973. At first only available as a Coupe, a Shooting Brake version was added to the line up for 1972-73. Styling was by Pelle Petterson under the tutelage of Pietro Frua when Frua's studio was a subsidiary of the Italian carrozzeria Ghia and it shared its mechanical specification with the current Volvo 122 Series
The project was originally started in 1957 because Volvo wanted a sports car to compete in the US & European markets, The man behind the project was an engineering consultant to Volvo, Helmer Petterson, who in the 1940s was responsible for the Volvo PV444. Unknown to him, design work was done by his son Pelle, under the tutelage of Italian auto stylist Pietro Frua while Frua's studio as a subsidiary of the prestigious carrozzeria Ghia. Volvo insisted it was an Italian design by Frua and only officially recognized Pelle Petterson's authorship in 2009
Originally produced for Volvo by Jensen and subcontracted to the Linwood plant. The P1800 was introduced in 1963 with servo assisted front disc brakes, twin carburettor engines and overdrive on all the British cars. Made famous in the Saint TV series (Roger Moore). The P1800 was powered by the B18, 1800cc with dual SU carburettors, producing 100 hp. This variant (named B18B) had a higher compression ratio than the slightly less powerful twin-carb B18D used in the contemporary Amazon 122S, as well as a different camshaft.
Production moved to Swedish Lundby in Gothenburg after 1963 with minor modifications as the P1800S (s standing for Sverige) . The engine was improved with an additional 8 hp (6 kW). In 1966 the four-cylinder engine was updated to 115 bhp (86 kW). Top speed was 109mph In 1969 the B18 engine was replaced with the 2-litre B20B variant of the B20 giving 118 bhp (88 kW), though it kept the designation 1800S.
For 1970 numerous changes came with the fuel-injected 1800E (the 'E' stands for Einspritzung, the German word for fuel injection), which had the B20E engine with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection and a revised camshaft, and produced 130 bhp top speed increased to 118mph with no loss of fuel efficiency In addition, the 1970 model was the first 1800 with four-wheel disc brakes
Volvo introduced its final P1800 variant, the 1800ES, in 1972 as a two-door shooting brake layout with a frameless, all-glass tailgate. The final design was chosen after two prototypes had been built by Sergio Coggiola and Pietro Frua. The ES engine was downgraded to 125 bhp (93 kW) by reducing the compression ratio with a thicker head gasket (engine variant B20F. The ES's rear backrest folded down to create a long flat loading area. As an alternative to the usual four-speed plus overdrive manual transmission, a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic was available in the 1800ES

The Volvo P1800 is a sports car from Volvo Cars.
A white 1962 Volvo P1800 (with licence plate ST1) driven by Simon Templar, played by Roger Moore, was featured in the TV series The Saint beginning in 1962 and played a prominent role throughout the entire run of the show. Roger Moore was so smitten with the Volvo that he bought one for his own personal use.
Two new cars had been introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961, a Jaguar E-type and the Volvo P1800. Jaguar was first offered the opportunity to provide an E-Type for the TV series but declined, feeling they had too much demand already and not seeing the need for additional press. When asked for a P1800, Volvo jumped at the chance. This led to an increase of sales of the P1800 and the creation of a 1960s icon. Initially, Volvo lent two cars for the series, one for static studio shots and the other for moving shots. When the P1800S came along, one of the earlier cars was cut up to allow better interior shots.
The We're Here! gang is looking for saints today. If you were around in 1962-69, you might remember Roger Moore as Simon Templar in the the U.S. adventure series The Saint.
So here it is, then – Koh Ta Pu, also known as James Bond Island. It’s in the magical setting of Phang Nga Bay, one of the undisputed jewels in Thailand’s marine crown. The bay, covering some 400 sq kms, is an area of outstanding limestone cliffs and stacks, mangroves, sea grass beds, coral reefs and intertidal wetlands.
And here, left of frame, is Koh Ta Pu, the stack which featured in the James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun starring Roger Moore as 007 and Christopher Lee as the villain Scaramanga. The stack rises to some 21 metres and has a diameter of around 4 metres at sea level and 8 metres at the top. Although it’s a major tourist site and sight, no boats are allowed anywhere near it because of its vulnerability to erosion and eventual collapse. You view it from a distance. And what a view!

Long gestation involved the project begining in 1957 under engineering consultant Helmar Pettersson with design work being done by his son Pelle Pettersson who worked for Pietro Frau. Volvo always insisted the car was designed in Italy by Frau but in 2009 Frau admitted that though they built the first three prototypes they were not responsible for the design. There then followed a protracted search for a company to build the car and Karmann initially agreed only for the deal to be scuppered by Volkswagen, Karmann biggest customer. Eventually Jensen Motors who then had spare capacity were approached and agreed a contract to build 10,000 cars Jensen sub contracted Pressed Steel in Linwood to build the uni-body shell and transport them to West Bromwich by rail the first P1800 being completed in 1960. The B18 1800cc engine (with a different cam shaft to that of the Amazon) was made with twin SU carburettors and giving 100 bhp.

P1800E (1969-72)
For 1970 numerous changes came with the fuel-injected 1800E, which had the B20E engine with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection and a revised camshaft, and produced 130 bhp with simular fuel economy as before.the 1970 model was the first 1800 with four-wheel disc brakes; until then the 1800 series had front discs and rear drums. In 1972, to meet emission standards mainly for the US market, a lower compression B20F engine was introduced for specific markets. Along with the new "F" head, the ECU, manifold pressure sensor, and head gasket were also changed for all cars with B20F engine.

The Volvo P1800 is a 2+2, front-engine, rear-drive sports car manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars between 1961 and 1973. Originally a coupé (1961–1972), it was also offered in a shooting-brake configuration toward the end of its production (1972–1973). Styling was by Pelle Petterson under the tutelage of Pietro Frua when Frua's studio was a subsidiary of the Italian carrozzeria Ghia, and the mechanicals were derived from Volvo's Amazon/122 series.
Marketed as a touring car rather than a sports car, the P1800 became widely known when driven by British actor Roger Moore in the television series The Saint, which aired from 1962 to 1969.
In 1998, an 1800S owned by Irv Gordon (1940–2018) was certified as the highest mileage private vehicle driven by the original owner in non-commercial service—having exceeded 3.25 million miles (over 5.23 million km) as of his death in 2018.
For 1970 numerous changes came with the fuel-injected 1800E (the 'E' stands for Einspritzung, the German word for fuel injection), which had the B20E engine with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection and a revised camshaft, and produced 130 bhp (97 kW) without sacrificing fuel economy. Top speed was around 190 km/h (118 mph) and acceleration from 0–100 km/h (0–62.1 mph) took 9.5 seconds. In addition, the 1970 model was the first 1800 with four-wheel disc brakes; until then the 1800 series had front discs and rear drums. In 1972 a lower compression B20F engine was introduced for specific markets to meet emission standards, mainly for the US. The ITV series The Saint ran from 1962-69 and starred Sir Roger Moore as the suave, gentleman thief Simon Templar, a modern day Robin Hood, from the Leslie Charteris books. The first book was Meet the Tiger from 1928.
In the early books Templar drove a red and cream Hirondel but for the 1960s TV series, he famously drove a white Volvo P1800. The original car chosen was the Jaguar MK X but it was impractical as a sporty car fitting The Saint's rakish image. Jaguar head Sir William Lyons was reluctant to offer up the E-Type feeling the Mark X was a sufficiently "saintly" vehicle. The producers didn't agree and entertained an offer from Mercedes, but finally settled on the sporty, very stylish Volvo P1800, first introduced in 1960. This car became The Saint's trademark vehicle throughout the duration of the Roger Moore series. He subsequently drove other cars, including a Jag XKS in later TV series.
Here I am doing my best Saint impression holding the complete DVD box set of The Saint.

In my fantasy, I'd have four people working with me. One person to travel (locally) when research is needed in order to complete designs. One architecturally savvy person to do preliminary design drawings. One computer savvy person to monitor social media, work on publishing and keep my growing notebook library (50 to date) intact. And a very dedicated cook and servant who could work together. It would be like a Japanese manga team of 6. I think of the studio of the "One Piece" manga author Eiichiro Oda and the atelier of the architect Steven Holl. It's just a fantasy, as I could never compare with either of these two elevated minds.
The attic room layout like reminiscent of Samuel Johnson's in Gough Street) of my fantasy atelier would have a bar counter with an opening in the ceiling. The rest of the room would have various niche reading areas, at various levels: One with cookbooks, one with a traditional architect's table, one with a wall with pegs for travel gear, and one with computers. My "desk" would be just a simple carpeted area in the center of the room in the shape of an oval. This area is the platform of a mechanized lift, like the "table volante" of Louis XV in the Chateau de Choisy. An lower level library is always available with books to be "served" onto the flying table. The only object on the oval area would be a pair of very good quality stereo headphones to listen and follow orchestral scores with. Daily conference meetings would be held around the raised oval which would then convert to a large table, A separate raised gallery around the oval would easily allow for very lively games of table golf, subbuteo table soccer and cricket. And a secondary table lift mechanism would convert into a lower level gambling table to bring actual revenue to the atelier, like a Macau casino in an old James Bond film. The lower level then would be a library, bar and casino. The atelier could last forever.

Aston Martin were looking to replace the DB6 model and had designed a larger, more modern looking car. The engine was not ready, however, so in 1967 the company released the DBS with the straight-six Vantage engine from the DB6. Two years later, Tadek Marek's V8 was ready, and Aston released the DBS V8. With the demise of the straight-six Vantage in 1973, the DBS V8, now restyled and called simply the Aston Martin V8, became the company's mainstream car for nearly two decades.
From 1969 through 1972, Aston's flagship model was the DBS V8. Though the body and name was shared with the six-cylinder DBS. The body was a modern reinterpretation of the traditional Aston Martin look, with a squared-off grille and four headlights (William Towns admitted that the rear quarters were "borrowed" from the early Ford Mustang). Distinguishing features of the V8 model are the larger front air dam, and steel wheels. Marek's V8 engine displaced 5.3 L (5,340 cc/325 in3) and used Bosch fuel injection. Output was not officially released, but estimates center around 315 hp with a top speed of around 150mph.402 DBS V8s were built. The Aston Martin V8 became retrospectively known as the Series 2
It was superceeded by the Series 3 for 1973, which switched back to Weber carburetors to help it comform with Californian emission standards These cars are distinguished by a taller hood scoop to accommodate four twin-choke (two-barrel) Weber carbs. The car produced 310 hp.
The Series 3 was in turn replaced by the updated Series 4 in 1978, and in turn the Series 5 in 1986 which continued in production into 1988 when the V8 Series was replaced by the Virage
The fuel-injected Series 5 cars were introduced in January 1986 at the New York International Auto Show. The compact Weber/Marelli system no longer needed the space of the previous carburetors, so the bonnet bulge was virtually eliminated. 405 Series 5 cars were built before production ceased in 1989. The Volante Series 2 received the same changes; 216 were built.
A DBS V8 was planned to be used by Roger Moore's character Brett Sinclair in the television show, The Persuaders! but no V8 car was available at that time so a six-cylinder DBS was modified to look like a V8 model for use in the show.
