Rocket Boy: Cool... when will the rocket hit the moon?

This started out as a shot of one of Seattle's International District dragon sculptures. I kinda got carried away, . . .

Daisy: Bok-bok-bok!

Little boy Okey-dokey, thx, Daisy, for filling up the tank all the way to the sky!

Owville Wwight: booooo-k bok- k. bo-k bok- k!

Little boy Yes, yes, Owville Wwight, I’m zooming right now! And of coure, I’ll shut the door tight-tight behind me!

Happy Late Wubba Wednesday!

Throwback to 2023 in Cambridge! While on the Dinky Doors Tour, I spotted the Rocket Rocket. I thought it was the perfect fit for today's photo theme!

During the maintenance of Arcturus Outpost’s LL-928 Galaxy Explorer it is standard procedure to disconnect the primary engines from the craft and set them up for repair, and refurbishment of any worn components.

For who knows what reason, Ensign Shawn Stevenson got it into his head to climb on top of the disconnected engine. While it rests in it’s maintenance harness, he engages the engine expelling whatever fuel was left in the injection system and pretends to ride it like a rocket! “I'm a rocket man!!”

--- Many of us have gotten a kick out of the silly and old school idea of using the detachable engines like a little rocket ships suggested on the back of the 10497 box. So I thought it would be fun to come up with something as a nod to that. I usually treat the Nova Team series a tad more serious than this, but I wanted to honor the box art and I thought this was a good compromise. And before you ask, yes that’s a Photoshopped Benny head. It was the best expression I had in my collection to express the absolute joy our “rocket man” was feeling. However, I still wanted this image to match the rest of the Nova Team series look.

burning up his fuse up here alone. (Elton John song reference, BTW) Jasper jetting around Lost Dutchman State Park.

The park name is in reference to a German dude (back in the 1800s known as a "Dutchman") who supposedly found a gold in the Superstition Mountains just East of Phoenix, AZ. Somewhere along the line the map to the goldmine was lost and the mine hasn't been found since despite many treasure seekers dying in the desert trying to find it. So it's really short for Lost Goldmine that a Dutchman originally discovered, not a Dutchman that got lost.

Einen guten, gelungenen Start ins Jahr 2022 wünscht der Silvesterkorken!

Dem schließe ich mich vollumfänglich an!

I don’t know about you, but music festivals always seem like busy places to me. Not exactly in keeping with a love of donning outdoor gear and heading for a lonely headland by the ocean. Each year we go to a local festival, entry wristbands provided gratis by the organisers to stop us complaining about the din from the centre stage, which happens to be about four hundred yards from our front garden as the crow flies. Or rather as the rooks fly in their thousands at roosting time each evening. Ali and I dip in and dip out of the show, bemused by the multitude of bright bucket hats and improbable steampunk glasses, feeling like fish out of water in the clothes we wore when we went to do the shopping at Aldi a couple of hours earlier. With a limit of ten thousand revellers, it’s about as much as we can cope with. And only in small doses at that.

So while various people I know, including my own daughter seem quite content to shell out huge wads of money if they’re lucky enough to get through the online queues and hours of hanging on the telephone, the thought of going to a full sized festival scares the living daylights out of me. Crikey, that's at least two song titles in the last sentence. Obviously I’d have been rather keen to see Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Santana at Woodstock amongst others in 1969, but I was only three at the time and I didn’t have a passport yet. Even if I did, I’m not sure my parents would have agreed to me travelling all that way on my own.

But along with seemingly half the nation, we’ll quite happily tune into the televised broadcasts from Glastonbury each June. Last year an eighty year old Paul McCartney took us back to the days I’m not old enough to remember, with a repertoire in which I knew every song as an old friend. And this time it was the farewell concert in this country by Elton John, a man who has an uncanny knack of appealing to every generation. While I’ve never rushed to buy any of his records, it felt like one of those performances that would stay locked in our memories - a special event that transcended music and connected so many people. Watching that joyous sea of souls in the audience, dressed in all manner of colourful and crazy apparel, grinning, singing, crying, making marriage proposals(!), waving at TV cameras and escaping life's shackles in those two hours was what touched me most of all. The enormous outpouring of love was so infinitely palpable, even to those of us watching from our sofas at home. What a wonderful thing to witness at a time when not everything in the world is going entirely swimmingly.

As we watched, twenty year olds belting out each chorus, standing next to seventy year olds doing exactly the same thing, I was struck by how his songs have become a roadmap of peoples’ lives, the emotions from both the performers and the crowd bursting from the screen and into living rooms everywhere. Every song took someone to a memory somewhere back in time it seemed. Happy memories and sad ones, small and insignificant memories and life changing moments all happened to someone to the soundtrack of "Your Song" or "Rocketman." When he was joined by Rina Sawayama for a blast of “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” I was immediately transported to that long hot summer of ‘76, watching cracks appear in the ground where there were once puddles and overdosing on Dartmoor blackberries. So many shared moments, so many personal ones, all happening together in those Somerset fields on a Sunday night in June.

And then as he sang “Someone Saved My Life Tonight,” a small wavering voice, one that I know so well piped up from the other half of the sofa. She never remembers the words to songs, and the ones that do come back she habitually puts in the wrong order, quite often deliberately because she knows it drives me to distraction. She even sings the words of one song to the tune of another, just to watch my exasperation levels hit the ceiling. But there in soft tones, “butterfly,” then “fly away,” and “high away” came in regular triplets as I watched her quietly through moistened eyes. “That was always my favourite one,” she confessed after it had finished. I’ve had “Butterfly” in my head for the last few days on permanent loop and I’m not bored of it yet. In fact I might never be. It was only the next day that I realised Elton had made another moment somewhere for someone. One I’ll forever treasure alongside somebody I’ve loved beyond words since the first time she grinned at me across a crowded office all those years ago.

And here’s the butterfly, walking along the Offa's Dyke Path on the border of England and Wales above Hay Bluff, patiently tolerating my preoccupation with landscape photography and grand scenes away from the crowds as she so often does. Thanks to Elton, life’s roadmap has another smiling signpost in the shape of a perfect butterfly. I even rushed out and bought her a copy of the record.

I sure hope this iconic piece of route 66 history survives it's latest challenge. The Launching Pad restaurant (where the giant sits outside) has been for sale since 2010. The owner insists that you must purchase the statue and the restaurant as one unit. You cant just buy the statue , so for now, who knows what will happen..

I'm sure this ice is still forming and folks are over here climbing to this day! It's probably from a spring or mountain runoff that's frozen. So the folks love to come over here from the Kalispell area and climb it!!!! This spot is only about 20 miles from Glacier National Park. It's so neat the way light will turn the ice into colors...I can see a pretty green inside the here.

Well Rocketman is doing okay. He's on a potent antibiotic that has him passed out...probably in relief!!! Thanks for your prayers and well wishes!!! ❤

This was taken on Sam's way home getting our new puppy Rocketman…..he comes from Tri Cities, WA. This began such an adjustment to our household. Penny was devastated....it's taken her acouple years but they're buds now!!! He's the cutest puppy we've ever had...a tie with Penn!!!!

It has been good to see recent press and television coverage from the events of the first moon landings some 50 years ago.🌝

Yes 50 years ago 16.07. 1969 Man set off for the moon. As a young lad I watched this historic event unfold on the television and remember writing down all the technical stuff in a notebook we were given at school.📘

Little did I know some 50 years later how invaluable this notebook was going to be.😇

Hoof who is President of the Woman’s Institute in the village had been giving a talk to the ladies on how to grow runner beans.

When suddenly Miss Ethel Beswetherick raises her hand and asked Hoof if it was possible for him to organise a trip to the moon for the ladies in recognition of what Neil Armstrong and his mates got up to 50 years ago.🚀

With no time to lose Horace was off to the nearest breakers yard, there he acquired an old 52 seater bus which he felt was easily convertible to convey the ladies to the moon and back.🚌

H & H spent a couple of evenings welding on two speedboat engines to each side of the bus. A few dust bin lids were used to cover the windscreen to deflect the heat away on their re-entry to the earths atmosphere.🚤🚤

On top of this Horace started rehearsing those immortal words “that’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind, think how far it is for a little pig like me with pink wellies”🐷

Meanwhile the ladies set about making space suits for their journey, packing something nice to wear under them, and all the necessary make up, jewellery and appropriate footwear for a moon walk.💍👛👜🎒👒👢👢👠👠

At 10.00 on the 16.07.19 H & H pull up at the bus shelter in the village, first and foremost copious amounts of alcohol were loaded into those lockers in the lower section of the bus, then 50 ladies from the WI all clad in their home made spacesuits board the bus, come on there is nothing unusual about this.💃💃💃💃💃👗👗👗🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

H & H fired up the old bus, no not Ethel Beswetherick. They drove to our field positioned themselves at the top of it, Horace gives the order to Hoof. “Go for main engine start”, Hoof hangs on to the steering wheel of the bus as it roars down across the field, none of this count down nonsense, they expertly negotiate a make shift ramp and they are airborne heading towards the earths outer atmosphere.🚌🚀

Horace then pull starts the two outboard engines for the extra thrust required to take them on towards the moon, thank goodness for my notebook.📘🚤🚤

The WI ladies start breaking into song, with some of the finest renditions of “Sweet Chariot” and “Going up Camborne Hill Coming Down” ever heard, obviously fuelled by the supplies in the cargo hold of the bus.🎤🎤

I must point out the two aforementioned songs are not the ones you will find on the internet, but versions especially tailored to suit members of the village WI🙈😂 One song does include hand gestures 🙈

Obviously with the advent of modern technology (the outboard engines) none of this 4 days to get to the moon like previous missions, but by 15.00hrs that afternoon H & H were skilfully reversing the bus down towards the surface of the moon.🚌🌝

With just feet to go, there is panic in the voice of Dorothy Menhenick who shouts “oh my goodness” (or words to that effect) my husband is out at the village snooker final tonight and I promised to bring in the cows and milk them, I must get back to the farm !😱🐄🐮🐄🐮

H & H slammed on the brakes of the old bus, blasted all the engines to full power and headed off back towards the village.

As mentioned earlier, re-entry to the earths atmosphere with any form of spacecraft is tricky, but no one had attempted it before with a bus, so it would require a bit of luck and good judgment.🚀🚌

Well during the re-entry stage things did start to clatter and bang a bit, but the village could be seen through the gaps of the dustbin lids covering the windscreen. Horace looked worried and at one point as they were going down, he could see a man hurtling up towards them.

Horace shouts to the man “hear mate do you know anything about spacecraft” the man shouts back “no, do you know anything about gas cookers” 💥💥💥

You will be glad to know that Dorothy milked the cows, and her husband’s team won the snooker final.🐄🐮🐄🐮🐄🐮🏆🏆

Have a great weekend, thank you all so much for viewing and the comments you leave which are so appreciated 🌝🚌🚀💃🐮😎

🍻🍻🍻🍷🍷🍷🐎🐷😂😂😂

I adore lunar imagery, and have a considerable archive of mission data/imagery, from ESA, JAXA, NASA, et al. Although I do have an affinity for all of it , really, I am particularly fond of the US and the Soviet space agencies' historical/legacy data (as a kid growing up in the NASA/Houston suburbs, I had the privilege of spending an evening with visiting Cosmonauts, and carried souvenirs of their space program kindly gifted years ago as good luck charms, so to speak, on my recent birthday! From the tragedy of Apollo 1, to the triumphant exit and ambitious Apollo 17 missions, the program seemed to be one superhuman act of engineering brilliance on top of almost unthinkable acts of bravery, on a repetitious cycle, as in those years, we were doing something so dramatic and amazing as to be literally unbelievable (Buzz actually punched a guy who accused him of faking the entire thing! As a student of martial arts, I learned quite early when to and when not to engage, but after such harassment, I can understand Dr. Aldrin's significant frustration! ;-) Ok. This is a relatively low-fi reproduction of one of the many images -- extraordinary material -- but on a whim, discovering it earlier today, I simply had to post! Cheers, guys! You're my heroes. Skäl.

Rocket man, burning out his fuse up here alone

Tried this style of shooting this weekend. Hand held, approx 25 seconds with a 6 stop filter attached, panning up, down and moving the camera backwards and forwards, over the 25 seconds.

An awful lot to learn here, but I'm liking this style of photography.

Hope you like "Rocketman"

Cheers, Mike

I've been chuckling ever since I uploaded this pic! What a little ham!! I'm still struggling with finding a program or software to autograph (put my logo on) my images...hope I can find something soon. :P Seems like Flickr doesn't much care about putting their own back up...and that's what I used! :(

Rocket was just laying on the couch...think the dogs are about as miserable as I am...it's so hot here. Probably 95 right now...a week or so ago we were in triple digits!!! The heat is no joke...puts us at high risk of forest fires here in my neck of the woods, which can be a real nightmare! Hopefully we'll escape those...but I'm not to hopeful! We're suppose to get thunderstorm tonight...yuck! lol The smell of smoke is in the air this evening...fires in progress...bummer!!

Back Story .........................................

The morning sun had just made it's appearance when

a hard left was maneuvered into the monkey temple.

Next a hard right, kicked the scooter into neutral and

coasted up to The Dog Palace gate where Mama came

racing out to greet me.

Bingo room was opened, food bowl was filled with kibble

and fresh cooked chicken. Mamas real happy. .. ;-)~

Started in checking her over for any new lacerations and

also checked her old one. Mixed a batch of antibiotic powder

with antibiotic cream an applied the compound to the old

laceration. FYI, it's looking good, clean an drying out.

Once we reached the roof Mama and Rocky started in playing

their chase an crash game. Big Fun for all of us .

So who is the small brown dog ?

Small brown puppy belongs to my friend Mr Leg Man.

Puppy follows him everywhere. Mama an Rocky try to

pretend they don't see him but sometimes Mama will

play for a brief period of time. Rocky is above that stuff.

Made a point to visit the head monk and all the hooligans

that live in the cave area. DJ is always excited to see me.

Big bag of kibble and chicken bits was spread out 4 them.

Head monk used sign language in asking me to take 3

male dogs to the dog doctor and have them neutered.

Sadly I had to decline, as much as I want to do it the new

budget won't allow any more spay an neuter operations.

In reality, spay an neuter was/is the main goal for this on

going project from the beginning.
