I put roughly 50 hours into engraving these engine rocker boxes and am very pleased with the results, the engine makes a great medium.

This rocker was made by my friends grandfather when she was a child in the early 1940's. Her brother now has it at his house for his grandchildren to enjoy. In the winter, they bring it in off of the front porch.

“Dreamtime” Rocker:
Made of Lacewood and curly maple. Lacewood is also known as Australian silky oak. It only grows in Australia. This rocker is definitely inspired by Sam Maloof who developed the joinery used in it. The back supports are laminated of 5 pieces of wood each. The rockers are laminated of 7 pieces each. All the joinery is glued up in the rough and then hand carved to the finish shape. This way the chair has a very organic feel to it, which is very nice to touch. -- Tim Carney
These two pretty much hate each other and wouldn't voluntarily be photographed this close together. But they have some very persuasive girls/women around them XD
I still love both of my boys though :3
My husband armwrestling with his niece. (The t-shirt was a gift from me, reading I'm a Rocker. I rock out.)

Finally bit the bullet, getting my livingroom furniture reupholstered.
This rocker belonged to my maternal grandfather, one of the kindest, most generous, interesting men I've ever known:
• Grew up in the great depression.
• As a teenager, he took his mother and younger sister from Ohio to the southwest, living in a tent and employed as a migrant laborer (picking carrots) so his sister with TB could live in a better atmosphere.
• Married my grandmother (also a wonderful person). They had my mother and settled in north Florida.
• Built his own house and farm, singlehanded.
• In World War 2, loaded bombs on airplanes for the Army.
• True renaissance man: farmer, butcher, carpenter, electrician, pastor, railroad mechanic. If he could imagine it being done, he'd figure out how.
• Told the best bedtime stories.
• Always willing to lend a hand/time/money to anyone in need.
It's one of the only things I still have from him and's synonymous with my summer childhood: running around barefoot in the northern Florida pine forests, eating mulberries out of trees, collecting eggs from his chickens, poking sticks in fire ant mounds, bonfiress, playing with the half dozen dogs and cats he kept, homemade ice cream.
Can't wait to see how it turns out.
