Blossom made up of tiny water droplets.. photographed using a 7mm extension tube costing less than a postage stamp.
It's a dour misty day over the fenland-like landscape of the River Humber's north bank, and the last rites of Crabley Creek Signal Box and semaphore signals are all but playing out.
Well, at least that was the plan. The £34m re-signalling project designed to eliminate all signal boxes and semaphore signals along the 9½ mile stretch from Gilberdyke to North Ferriby was ultimately successful - with the exception of the box at Crabley Creek. Required to serve Crabley Farm, which lies isolated on the banks of the Humber behind me, the deeds of the land specify that while ever there is a railway crossing just here, it must be manned.
So, the signal box, which at over 120 years just happened to be the oldest along this stretch, remains in use. It no longer controls signals (that takes place some 30 miles away at the York Rail Operating Centre), but the attendant on duty does monitor the location of trains on the track diagram to decide when it's safe for traffic to and from the farm to cross. With typically 10 trains an hour using the crossing, integrating the passage of tractors, especially during the busy harvest season, together with the occasional movement of livestock, can be quite a challenge.
In this shot, a 2-car Northern class 142 Pacer unit approaches under clear signals with a local train destined for Hull. Rather like the signals, the Pacer unit is now also consigned to the past. But at least some of the history here lives on.

No-one leaves the Wilson Tunnel unchanged. Doing it every day might dull your senses, but a first time visitor becomes aware of a subtle transformation that is hard to put in words. What is it?

As many photos as I have of Irises, I can't let a Spring pass without taking a few more.
Have a great Monday, folks!
Shot of the inside of the main corridor of the grand sheikh zayed mosque.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was initiated by the late president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who wanted to establish a structure which unites the cultural diversity of Islamic world, the historical and modern values of architecture and art. His final resting place is located on the grounds beside the same mosque.
The mosque was constructed from 1996 to 2007. It is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates.
The building complex measures approximately 290 m (960 ft) by 420 m (1,380 ft), covering an area of more than 12 hectares (30 acres), exclusive of exterior landscaping and vehicle parking.
My second entry for round 1 of this year's Iron Forge. The minifigure chair is used four times (one obscured), twice for the eyelids and twice for the nostrils.
Something old today. This is a rework of a shot from my last London jolly back in 2017. The location is St Mary Abbotts Church in Kensington. The crepuscular rays were added courtesy of Skylum software

I love visiting the Columbia River Gorge in the spring, especially during wildflower season when the lush blossoms just overwhelms the senses.
I've been wanting to get this shot for a few years now, but it has eluded me until recently. There is a brief window period in the spring when the sun transits above the waterfall and if you show up at a certain time of day you can catch a sunstar through the trees. It also creates these sunrays due to the dense mists in the amphitheater.
For most folk who go to Golant photographing trains this is the shot that they have to get in the bag. Andy brought us to this spot and Rob and myself decided it was a winner. 66165 can be seen snaking its way along the causeway with 6P24 Parkandillack to Fowey Dock in some glorious afternoon sunlight.
Water rites were performed regularly in temples and were integral to the daily routines of priests, ensuring the maintenance of cosmic order.
These rites often included the pouring of water over altars or images of deities, symbolizing the flow of divine energy and favor.

Each year after a brutal winter in Minnesota, people eagerly await the transformations that mark the passage of unlivable conditions into those that call for hammocks, barbecues and boats. Memorial Day is a day to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice but it is also a day that unofficially marks the start of a time in our state when you can pretty safely put away winter clothes.
