fixated on fireworks on Canada Day in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada

Thank you for your visit! HLCoF!

It was the light and textures around the pools that did it for me, Sunrise

The afternoon sun breaks through the clouds and lights up Stillwater Canyon of the Green River and the vast rocky terrain of eroded cliffs, buttes, and side canyons, dominated by the bright White Rim Sandstone. A section of the Green River is visible in the upper left quadrant as it loops around Turks Head (isolated butte in the center right) and flows back to the left toward its junction with the Colorado River.

Getting to Murphy Bench on the White Rim Road where this photo was taken involved traveling some gooey roads fed by snowmelt from recent storms, with precipitous drops on the roadsides or steep inclines. Getting off the north side of Murphy Bench was also exciting with a snowy/icy road resembling a toboggan run. Not surprisingly I didn’t see anyone else for the final three days of the trip. In retrospect the challenge of the road was a small price to pay for the isolation in a sublime landscape.

Skyline Rim provides a sweeping view of the Lower Blue Hills at Dawn, with the Henry Mountains on the horizon.

A sure-footed photographer wanted a memorable photo.

Light sources from the sky, south rim visitor center across the Grand Canyon, and then the lights here along the north rim near the lodge. A magical time to be out and see the Milky Way.

now comes the time of golden summer and it brings a lot of beautiful details out there

With all the rain we have tons of puddles, what else do you do on a rainy day but capture reflections.

South Rim Grand Canyon AZ

Afternoon view from Needles Overlook, Canyon Rims Recreation Area. The scene looks toward the north, with partially sunlit Island in the Sky on the left, and a bit of the Colorado River in the valley. A clearing winter storm conceals the La Sal Mountains above the cliffs in the right center.

Not many panoramic views are left like this where there's little impact of human development on the landscape.

The oriental darter, or Anhinga melanogaster is a is a water bird of tropical South Asia and Southeast Asia. It has a long and slender neck with a straight, pointed bill and, like the cormorant, it hunts for fish while its body is submerged in water.

The feathers on its neck are short and hairy, which provides the beautiful rim light effect under right lighting conditions that you can see in this shot.

The formation on the left is known as the Duck on a Rock. I'm uncertain whether it is the head of duck looking left or the entire body of a duck "swimming" left. None the less I admire the name's creativity. But what caught my attention here was the view beyond the duck towards the north rim of the canyon.

Saw this old wagon at one of Long Island east end wineries. Thought she showed her age well!

Dawn is a rim show at Bryce Canyon National Park and certainly was on this day in April, 2023. As a first-timer here, it felt like the hoodoos were waking up with us, more of them showing each minute, the yellows, the oranges, the reds, with that silky blue sky shifting as time passed. We all have these moments with our cameras, don't we? Another place I was so glad to finally visit.
