Blue Ridge Scenic about 4,000 ft up on the blue ridge parkway, just another view of the beautiful mountains in North Carolina.

It was a very cool, breezy evening here at Waterrock Knob near Soco Gap at the time of this capture, with lightly clouded skies and wonderful yet subtle colorful sunlight peeking through just before sunset.

My intent was to capture the "true blue" of these beautiful mountains as well as the essence of why they're called the Great "Smokies".

"I Ponti della Valle" è un ponte realizzato da Luigi Vanvitelli nel XVIII secolo. Serve l'acquedotto carolino che, all'epoca, trasportava l'acqua dalle falde del Taburno sino a Caserta. L'opera è anche Patrimonio dell'Unesco dal 1997.

I had a couple of days off so decided to head into Langdale to see what the weather was doing. I parked up and headed up Side Pike. As I was heading up I kept looking back towards Blea Tarn as I could see a little bit of colour but also the clouds were moving around nicely, which as I was expecting would allow the sun to break through at some point...I was right. I had a couple of minutes of light to get this image made. Looking from Side Pike over towards Rakerigg bathed in light.

I am mining the 2014 archives again for this week's Fence Friday shot. Processed in a painterly style, it was captured on a wet and foggy autumn day somewhere on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, USA.

The view from Roy's Peak, Wanaka, South Island, New Zealand

Roys Peak is a mountain in New Zealand, standing between Wanaka and Glendhu Bay. It offers a full-day walk, with views across Lake Wanaka and up to the peak of Mount Aspiring/Tititea. The track zigzags steeply up the side of Mount Roy, through thick grass until the ridge to the summit. The highest point is 1,578 m (5,177 ft).

Ein paar mehr Wolken wären schön gewesen. Aber die zaubere ich beim nächsten Ausflug dazu. Diese Location gefällt mir sehr.

Sarrail Ridge is a 11.3-kilometer trail located near Kananaskis, Alberta. It is rated as difficult. The trail starts from the Upper Kananaskis Lake parking lot.

Scramble to Sarrail Ridge was tough, lots of people returned after enjoying the beauty of Rawson Lake from the bottom.

From Rawson Lake to Sarrail Ridge, still quite people at the first 2/3 scrambling, reaching to the steepest part, needed rope to climb, another portion of people gave up, returned… This final third is both physically and mentally challenging but entirely worth it for the view at the ridge! The view on top of the ridge was spectacular!

Tree Art

I just had to do some ART! I love landscapes but I needed a change.

The Lauteraarhorn is a peak (4,042 m) of the Aarmassif in the Bernese Alps in Switzerland. It lies close to the Schreckhorn (to the north) and the Finsteraarhorn (to the south). At the foot of the Lauteraarhorn lie the Lauteraar and the Finsteraar Glaciers, tributaries of the Unteraar Glacier.

I've included this photo in my stream just to give you some idea of the Fellhorn ridge hike. The fence isn't too nice, but when you're walking the trail, you are very happy it's there, as there is a precipice behind it. At the same time this photo shows you that it isn't all very steep: we came from the top station of the Kanzelwand cable car - that is the white building on the ridge to the right (in the distance) - and there is a broad, winding path that first descends before you reach the ridge. This photo was taken from the top station of another cable car coming from the Germany: the Fellhornbahn (this station is not visible). A further climb of a mere 70 metres brought us to the top of the Fellhorn (2038 m). That was only the start of our hike.

Happy Fence Friday!

near Balsam, North Carolina

These mountains are appropriately named as they are often a beautiful blue color. A great place to hike. My favorite time is in the spring when the rhododendrons, mountain laurels and wildflowers are blooming.
