Cacti are thorny plants that grow in dry and arid areas because they have the capacity to store water inside. They are very resistant and love sunlight.

In the many visits I made to the cactus area in the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro I was surprised by the delicacy of the flowers in contrast to the plant.

Here I present two species with flowers of very delicate texture and beautiful colors.

Echinocereus cinerascens with flower in lovely mauve color, and 12cm in diameter.

Taken at Suaka...long time ago.

I was so happy to find this little pelargonium still flowering in a sheltered corner of the garden :) We've been away for a few days enjoying the winter sunshine but I look forward to catching up with everyone now we're home :)

Many thanks for all the kind comments and faves on my images. They are very much appreciated.

Alone you wait

For rains that never come

They praise your strength

And marvel at the way you thrive

But no one ever thinks to ask

Hey, are you okay?

They never see the days

You bend until you nearly break

Or plummet down in free-fall

With no safety net beneath

Your solitary soul is all

On which you can depend

Yet you carry on and search within

Brave the dark til sunrise comes

Then they return to say

‘How beautiful and strong’

It isn't an easy life for a foliage tree in the middle of a conifer monoculture. The ground is usually over acidified and there is not much light finding its way down here. And still, there are, even on places like this, some specimens struggeling through and holding steady. What we see in our woodlands, we can notice in our society as well. Here, its necessary to hold on too, when You are different ore you think different than your surrounding environment. There will also be tried to assimilate or exclude You. But finally, disorder is the natural state of any system. From a certain point on, its impossible to stop it.

The children play wrapped in the sunset called ewarumaná which in their language means; “darkens the world”. Poetic phrase that mutates between shadows at the return of waröpö (night) and resilience mixes with uncertainty...F.O.G.

This little Michigan Lily grows with a few friends in the ditch alongside of our road. Years ago they grew in abundance along the roads in our area, but once the county began mowing along the road right of way, the lilies disappeared. You can imagine my delight a few years ago when I saw them making a comeback in the ditches where the mowers can't reach.

A long exposure during Storm Otto. Alas only a tiny rainbow that morning.

I can't think of the perfect title for this. Suggestions?

I got to spend a few days in Yellowstone this winter and got a lot of bison images. I always tell myself, anyone can get a bison picture, but it's harder to get a good bison picture. So I try to work harder at it.

-A big and striking butterfly, the Large Striped Swordtail inhabits moist savannas and coastal forests and in South Africa can be seen through most of Limpopo, low-lying parts of Mpumalanga and most of Kwazulu-Natal. Adults of both sexes, on the wing from spring to autumn and boasting a wingspan of around 7cm, can often be seen visiting flowers but the males – as depicted in some of the images below – are especially fond of muddy puddles as well and will often congregate there in large numbers. These butterflies are very strong fliers.- Source: dewetswild.com/

Lots of shit going on IRL, it’s nice to bounce in and take a random snapshot in SL and focus my brain power on something other than work.

was hiking through a narrow slot canyon when I came upon a tree growing in the deep sand. What a surprise! Beautifully framed by the towering rocks, it seemed to belong there even though the growing conditions are harsh.

I haven't taken the time to identify this species of groundcover but am always taken by its appearance and resurgence when the snows of winter fade away and before any other green appears. An evergreen maintaining its leaves and berries throughout the year, this was taken a few days ago....it is now again buried beneath yet another fresh snowfall which graces the landscape this morning.

i have a long swath of garden bed that’s all coneflower, which has bloomed for months. each time i think it’s done, another bloom appears, reaching toward the light. these new blooms—the whole garden bed—teaches me about resilience, hope, beauty, imperfection, and grace.

If you think you have a hard life... Think again!
