The Middle School Data Science Workshop is a one-day event for seventh grade students to learn about artificial intelligence and how it works. Students will learn about AI, look at code, modify it, and run it to train an AI model. Graphs will be made showing the performance of their models and they will learn how to read them.

Jefferson Lab hosted an afternoon reception in honor of our community of inventors. At this invite-only event, we celebrated inventors' accomplishments with a toast to innovation and a convivial afternoon of conversation and refreshments.
Our keynote speaker is Parikha Mehta, Special Advisor to the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO.)
Research and development beginning on an idea i have to make paper pulp alphabet letters with flower seeds or bird seed embedded in them. I decided I'm going to use newspaper since it's less toxic than glossy junk mail which was my original idea. This first attempt is with brown kraft packing from a shipping box. The pulp looks like poop!

Note: The 2023 Technology Use estimates are based on responses from approximately 14,000 agricultural operations and represent all sizes and types of farms. Estimates for some states were combined due to their low number of responses. This event is JLab’s version of "Shark Tank" - Quark Tank! SLAM is short-talk competition challenging post-doc contestants to present a compelling 3-minute presentation on their research that a non-specialist can understand.
The winner will be Jefferson Lab's representative that will compete against contestants from the sixteen other national labs on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 15. There, contestants will educate U.S. government policymakers and their staff about the key role our labs play in the nation's innovation ecosystem and their impact on the nation.

The Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl® is a nationwide academic competition that tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science and mathematics. Middle and high school student teams are comprised of four students, one alternate, and a teacher who serves as an advisor and coach. Teams face-off in a fast-paced question-and-answer format, being tested on a range of science disciplines including biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, energy, and math.

Third walk for the Bearing Flux project - this time setting off from the dark arches in Leeds to explore and interact with spaces along the canal. Various bridges lend themselves very well to some nice silhouettes and a sense of drama.
Bearing Flux is a collaboration between five Yorkshire based artists, using performance art as a methodology for exploring site and place. More about this developing project here: bearingflux.tumblr.com/

These magnets came from Argonne National Laboratory, which shipped the 30-year-old Advanced Photon Source (APS) magnets to Brookhaven and Jefferson Lab, where they will be re-purposed for use as part of the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a state-of-the-art particle collider being led by those other two labs and that will be built at Brookhaven.
