In the moonlight we saw reindeer with strong wind and blowing snow. It was a wonderful encounter with these peaceful animals.

Rentier (Rangifer tarandus)

The reindeer (Rangifer tarandus), also known as the caribou in North America,[3] is a species of deer with circumpolar distribution, native to Arctic, sub-Arctic, tundra, boreal, and mountainous regions of northern Europe, Siberia, and North America.[2] This includes both sedentary and migratory populations. Rangifer herd size varies greatly in different geographic regions. The Taimyr herd of migrating Siberian tundra reindeer (R. t. sibiricus) in Russia is the largest wild reindeer herd in the world,[4][5] varying between 400,000 and 1,000,000. What was once the second largest herd is the migratory boreal woodland caribou (R. t. caribou) George River herd in Canada, with former variations between 28,000 and 385,000. As of January 2018, there are fewer than 9,000 animals estimated to be left in the George River herd, as reported by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.[6] The New York Times reported in April 2018 of the disappearance of the only herd of southern mountain caribou in the lower 48 states, with an expert calling it "functionally extinct" after the herd's size dwindled to a mere three animals.

Tromsø is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Tromsø.
Tromsø lies in Northern Norway. The 2,521-square-kilometre (973 sq mi) municipality is the 18th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Tromsø is the 9th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 71,590 (2014). The municipality's population density is 30.6 inhabitants per square kilometre (79/sq mi) and its population has increased by 15.9% over the last decade.[6][7] It is the largest urban area in Northern Norway and the third largest north of the Arctic Circle anywhere in the world (following Murmansk and Norilsk). Most of Tromsø, including the city centre, is located on the island of Tromsøya, 350 kilometres (217 mi) north of the Arctic Circle. In 2017, the city of Tromsø had a population of about 65,000 people spread out over Tromsøya and parts of Kvaløya and the mainland. Tromsøya is connected to the mainland by the Tromsø Bridge and the Tromsøysund Tunnel, and to the island of Kvaløya by the Sandnessund Bridge.
The municipality is warmer than most other places located on the same latitude, due to the warming effect of the Gulf Stream. Tromsø is even milder than places much farther south of it elsewhere in the world, such as on the Hudson Bay and in Far East Russia, with the warm-water current allowing for both relatively mild winters and tree growth in spite of its very high latitude.
The city centre of Tromsø contains the highest number of old wooden houses in Northern Norway, the oldest house dating from 1789. The city is a cultural centre for its region, with several festivals taking place in the summer. Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge of the electronica duo Röyksopp and Lene Marlin grew up and started their careers in Tromsø. Noted electronic musician Geir Jenssen also hails from Tromsø.

Taking a photo of Fynn and Rudi Reindeer was a difficult task. It was windy and Rudi kept falling off the table as soon as I was ready to press the shutter button. And Fynn was distracted because we had a visitor. Filou visited Fynn at home for the first time and was out on the terrace too when I took this photo. I deliberately ignored Filou because I wanted him to be able to explore everything without being bothered by a camera.
The Dragon loves Reindeer .... in his food bowl. It's probably his favourite among the cat food he gets. I think he shouldn't tell Rudolph and Santa's other Reindeer, though, they may feel offended .... :)
…oder habe ich eine rote Nase ? 😊
...or do I have a red nose ? 😊
This must be the reindeer Dancer following his dreams, as I recently learned from Connie. I wouldn't have thought that this way would lead to Shopping City Süd, the biggest shopping centre in Austria … 😜

Kolíbky is a limestone vitrification formation near Jedovnice, CZ.
The Kolíbek area was used as early as the Paleolithic period, about 12,000 years ago, when it was inhabited by reindeer and horse hunters. This results from numerous archaeological findings of stone tools and bones of hunted animals, such as reindeer, horse, arctic fox, hare, badger, marten, brown bear, mammoth.
Today the place is mainly visited by climbers, the 15 meters high rocks offer many climbing routes. But they can be climbed without equipment, there are paths and trails between the rocks.

Hello, I'm a look like of 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer'
and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The reindeer (Rangifer tarandus), also known as the caribou in North America, is found in large herds in the tundra and taiga zones along the tree line of northern Europe, Asia (Siberia) and North America.
It can be characterized by light or dark brown fur, along with a white chest, underbelly, and rump. They have long snouts, short tails, and long legs ending in large even-toed hooves. The reindeer also has a dewlap on its throat covered in white hair. It is the only species of deer in which both males and females possess antlers.
The females usually measure 162–205 cm in length and weigh 80–120 kg. The males (or "bulls") are typically larger (although the extent to which varies in the different subspecies), measuring 180–214 cm in length and usually weighing 159–182 kg.
This picture was taken in Zoo Duisburg, Germany.

These are semi-domesticated reindeer – that is, reindeer that belong to the Sami, the arctic indigenous people of Norway. But reindeer usually live and move freely in the wild for the most part all year round.

This was a nice surprise on our way back from the Lofoten islands to Germany via Sweden :o)
There were bigger herds before but these were the only ones right in front of the car.
This little reindeer made of magic wool and pipe cleaners, which my daughter once made as a small child, adorns our Advent wreath every year during the Christmas season (together with other reindeer), after sitting well protected in its small box for the rest of the year.
With each passing year, it seems to become a little more fragile and sensitive, so it is carefully placed on the wreath and shines there with the candles. I am always happy about his little lovely wool face and the touchingly harmless pipe cleaner horns.
To all Flickr friends a peaceful, contemplative and beautiful (Christmas) time and for the New Year all the best, happiness and health. 💙💙💙
