It's Family Values Time at Rentway! Of course, they promoted and promised low payments, no deposits and fast delivery and no credit hassles!! Well, Rentway will prepare for a rocky ride next year when they sell a few stores to Rent-A-Center! (I say Rent A Center!)
Psst! You could win a dinner with a soap star, and it could be from AMC, OLTL, GH, DAYS, GL, ATWT or Y&R! Perhaps I can win dinner with John Callahan and Eva LaRue (Edmund and Maria), Tyler Christopher Baker (Prince Nikolas), Hillary B. Smith (Nora Hanen Buchanan), and/or Marj Dusay (Vanessa Bennett Cortlandt, AMC/Alex Spaulding, GL)!
November 2001.
According to records, the land that this Dollar General in the foreground sits on was owned by Union Oil Company in 1978, pointing to a Union '76 station being here. I honestly don't remember some of the 70's vintage stuff this far north on Elvis Presley Blvd., since we didn't go much past Whitehaven Plaza most of the time (and I was way too young to drive myself!). The ownership changed hands many (many!) times here, but nothing hinting at what the current, 1979-built structure was.
According to permit records, the owner was "Renter's Choice" back in 1998: one of those rent to own stores most likely, and it was a title loan place between 1998 up until at least 2004. But other than that, no help at all from the county records on this one. I want to say (with about 95% certainty) I remember this as opening as something called Santa Appliances.
Perhaps I didn't dig deep enough, but Google and YouTube were no help on confirming Santa Appliances. As of the time I'm writing this (July 31), I'm going to attempt to reach out to another local flickr member for help on confirming the Santa Appliances thing...
UPDATE: hickmanjack found evidence for me that there was indeed a such thing as Santa Appliances, which may of been a local / regional chain. No doubt in my mind about it being Santa now! She also remembers this Dollar General being a Corning Revere store (probably shortly after it's run as Santa), a fact which I had forgotten about.
The old Amoco station in the background I did indeed profile five years ago, back when it was branded as a BP. Street view history shows that the rebranding occurred sometime after July 2014.
We're only a block away from "ground zero" (Graceland itself) now, as evidenced by the touristy-looking view in this photo! The Rock 'n' Roll Cafe and Souvenir Shop was some kind-of-dreary/possibly-sketchy-looking place called Memphis Outlet back in 2014, and yet another of the many places not covered in my 2012 series. Prior to that, I remember it was strictly a souvenir shop for many years ("Souvenir's of Elvis", I think it was called). Glad to see it being used for something Elvis-themed again, actually, and not just souvenirs this time!
Nothing to confirm this in the county records, but I remember this being something called the Fireside Restaurant (it had a fireplace back then, of course(!), which I think was removed for the addition on the left of the building). I remember the food was quite good here as well during the Fireside days, but seems like we only got to eat there a few times before it went out of business. Note also the neon guitar on the Days Inn next door, and an aerial view confirms that the hotel has a guitar-shaped swimming pool as well! Geez, tourists will go ga-ga over anything even remotely Elvis-related it seems XD

In Delaware, you do need an attorney to complete a real estate transaction.
Prior to closing, however, most home buyers are capable of handling routine real estate purchase contracts as long as they make certain they read the fine print and understand all the terms of the contract.
In particular, you, the seller, should be clear on the terms of any contingency clauses that will allow them to back out of the contract.
If you have any questions at all, it may be advisable to consult an attorney to avoid future legal hassles.
In looking for an attorney, ask friends for recommendations or ask me to recommend several. Call to inquire about fees and to check on their experience. In general, more experienced attorneys will cost more, but real estate fees as a rule are small relative to the cost of the property you are buying. www.GetMyHouse.com
