I did a remake of "V-J Day in Times Square," or "Kissing the War Goodbye" (which I just learned are photos of the same couple at the same time, but taken from two different perspectives by two different photographers) the iconic image of when soldiers returned home after WWII and the celebration of victory. My version is contemporary, in modern Times Square, with a gay couple. I want this to celebrate how far the gay rights movement has come, and to show the celebration of the victories towards equal rights for everyone. I did a black and white version as well as a color version. I think the color version makes it look more modern, however the black and white version ties it to the original better. My favorite parts of my remakes are how exaggerated the kiss is, and how there is a statue in the background depicting the couple from the original photographs.
