Rock Pipit - Anthus petrosus
The Eurasian rock pipit is closely related to the water pipit and the meadow pipit, and is rather similar in appearance. Compared to the meadow pipit, the Eurasian rock pipit is darker, larger and longer-winged than its relative, and has dark, rather than pinkish-red, legs. The water pipit in winter plumage is also confusable with the Eurasian rock pipit, but has a strong supercilium and greyer upperparts; it is also typically much warier. The Eurasian rock pipit's dusky, rather than white, outer tail feathers are also a distinction from all its relatives. The habitats used by Eurasian rock and water pipits are completely separate in the breeding season, and there is little overlap even when birds are not nesting.
The Eurasian rock pipit is almost entirely coastal, frequenting rocky areas typically below 100 metres (330 ft), although on St Kilda it breeds at up to 400 metres (1,300 ft).[15] The Eurasian rock pipit is not troubled by wind or rain, although it avoids very exposed situations. It may occur further inland in winter or on migration.[3]
The breeding range is temperate and Arctic Europe on western and Baltic Sea coasts, with a very small number sometimes nesting in Iceland. The nominate race is largely resident, with only limited movement. A. p. kleinschmidti, which nests on the Faroe Islands and the Scottish islands, may move to sandy beaches or inland to rivers and lakes in winter. A. p. littoralis is largely migratory, wintering on coasts from southern Scandinavia to southwest Europe, with a few reaching Morocco. Wanderers have reached Spitsbergen and the Canary Islands, but records in Europe away from the coast are rare.
The Eurasian rock pipit is a much more approachable bird than the water pipit. If startled, it flies a fairly short distance, close to the ground, before it alights, whereas its relative is warier and flies some distance before landing again. Eurasian rock pipits are usually solitary, only occasionally forming small flocks.
Estimates of the breeding population of the Eurasian rock pipit vary, but may be as high as 408,000 pairs, of which around 300,000 pairs are in Norway. Despite slight declines in the British population and some range expansion in Finland, the population is considered overall to be large and stable, and for this reason it is evaluated as a species of least concern by the IUCN.

The painted-snipe is not related to the true snipes and differs from them in habits, flight and appearance, being far more colorful and having longer legs than the snipes. It is unusual in that the female is larger and more brightly colored than the male, with the sides of the head, neck and throat a rich chestnut brown, and a distinct black band across the breast; the male is paler and greyer.
Mostly in the animal kingdom the males are more beautiful than the females. There are exceptions of course, like in humans, where females are far more beautiful than males. This bird is also an exception. The female is more colourful. I saw a female as well, but couldn't get her well on the photo.

Related to the shelduck, this pale brown and grey goose has distinctive dark brown eye-patches and contrasting white wing patches in flight. It was introduced as an ornamental wildfowl species and has escaped into the wild, now successfully breeding in a feral state.
Many thanks for any faves and comments
It is a genus of about 125 species of tropical, succulent flowering plants in the family Crassulaceae, mainly native to Madagascar and tropical Africa. Kalanchoe was one of the first plants to be sent into space, sent on a resupply to the Soviet Salyut 1 space station in 1971. Most are shrubs or perennial herbaceous plants, but a few are annual or biennial. The largest, Kalanchoe beharensis from Madagascar, can reach 6 m tall, but most species are less than 1 m tall. Kalanchoes are characterized by opening their flowers by growing new cells on the inner surface of the petals to force them outwards, and on the outside of the petals to close them. Kalanchoe flowers are divided into 4 sections with 8 stamens. The petals are fused into a tube, in a similar way to some related genera such as Cotyledon. 25091
Red Squirrel - Sciurus Vulgaris
Highlands, Scotland.
The red squirrel is found in both coniferous forest and temperate broadleaf woodlands. The squirrel makes a drey (nest) out of twigs in a branch-fork, forming a domed structure about 25 to 30 cm in diameter. This is lined with moss, leaves, grass and bark. Tree hollows and woodpecker holes are also used. The red squirrel is a solitary animal and is shy and reluctant to share food with others. However, outside the breeding season and particularly in winter, several red squirrels may share a drey to keep warm. Social organization is based on dominance hierarchies within and between sexes; although males are not necessarily dominant to females, the dominant animals tend to be larger and older than subordinate animals, and dominant males tend to have larger home ranges than subordinate males or females.
Red squirrels that survive their first winter have a life expectancy of 3 years. Individuals may reach 7 years of age, and 10 in captivity. Survival is positively related to availability of autumn–winter tree seeds; on average, 75–85% of juveniles die during their first winter, and mortality is approximately 50% for winters following the first.
Although not thought to be under any threat worldwide, the red squirrel has nevertheless drastically reduced in number in the United Kingdom; especially after the grey squirrels were introduced from North America in the 1870s. Fewer than 140,000 individuals are thought to be left in 2013; approximately 85% of which are in Scotland, with the Isle of Wight being the largest haven in England. A local charity, the Wight Squirrel Project,[26] supports red squirrel conservation on the island, and islanders are actively recommended to report any invasive greys. The population decrease in Britain is often ascribed to the introduction of the eastern grey squirrel from North America, but the loss and fragmentation of its native woodland habitat has also played a role.
In January 1998, eradication of the non-native North American grey squirrel began on the North Wales island of Anglesey. This facilitated the natural recovery of the small remnant red squirrel population. It was followed by the successful reintroduction of the red squirrel into the pine stands of Newborough Forest. Subsequent reintroductions into broadleaved woodland followed and today the island has the single largest red squirrel population in Wales. Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour is also populated exclusively by red rather than grey squirrels (approximately 200 individuals).
This non-migratory species is a member of the pheasant family and is more commonly referred to as "Partridge" rather than Ruffed Grouse. They are well camouflaged birds with colouring ranging from a grayish-brown through reddish-browns. This species has the distinction of being the most widespread gamebird in North America.
Anyone spending much time in the bush in spring has heard the telltale "drumming" of the male Ruffed Grouse". This is an act related to proclaiming territory and announcing his presence to females by strutting on a log with his crest raised, his neck feathers erected to create a black "ruff", fanning his tail and beating his wings rapidly to create a drumming sound.
When not displaying it is difficult to identify the two genders.

Vinca is a genus of flowering plants in the family Apocynaceae, native to Europe, northwest Africa and southwest Asia. The English name periwinkle is shared with the related genus Catharanthus (and also with the common seashore mollusc, Littorina littorea). Vinca plants are subshrubs or herbaceous, and have slender trailing stems 1–2 m long but not growing more than 20–70 cm above ground; the stems frequently take root where they touch the ground, enabling the plant to spread widely. The leaves are opposite, simple broad laneolate to ovate, 1–9 cm long and 0.5–6 cm broad; they are evergreen in four species, but deciduous in the herbaceous V. herbacea, which dies back to the root system in winter. The flowers, produced through most of the growing season, are salverform (like those of Phlox), simple, 2.5–7 cm broad, with five usually violet (occasionally white) petals joined together at the base to form a tube. The fruit consists of a pair of divergent follicles; the dry fruit dehisces along one rupture site to release seeds. 13196
The fuchsias are most closely related to the northern hemisphere genus Circaea, the two lineages having diverged around 41 million years ago. Fuchsia is a genus of flowering plants that consists mostly of shrubs or small trees. Almost 110 species of Fuchsia are recognized; the vast majority are native to South America, but a few occur north through Central America to Mexico, and also several from New Zealand to Tahiti. Fuchsia leaves are opposite or in whorls of three to five, simple lanceolate, and usually have serrated margins (entire in some species), 1–25 cm long, and can be either deciduous or evergreen, depending on the species. The flowers are very decorative; they have a pendulous teardrop shape and are displayed in profusion throughout the summer and autumn, and all year in tropical species. They have four long, slender sepals and four shorter, broader petals; in many species, the sepals are bright red and the petals purple (colours that attract the hummingbirds that pollinate them), but the colours can vary from white to dark red, purple-blue, and orange. A few have yellowish tones. 29315
Why is it I always have ideas/stories related to my pictures but then it becomes impossible to write them down?
At school I was pretty good at writing, I even won some prizes! It's only been in the last few years, I've stopped writing, you know... we are always so busy/stressed/tired *rolls her eyes*
And it's frustrating, all those thoughts, feelings, ideas, dreams bottled up, even the thought process behind my decors and pictures, I shall make it a New Year Resolution along with the gym, new job, getting in touch with old friends, more sleep... and less screen time to read and write more, easy... isn't it?!
Yes, there was an idea behind this scene... Christmas Day is far gone, but in Spain, most of the kids, and adults are still looking forward "The Epiphany", or as we call it Día de Reyes (the Three Wise Men); so here some presents had been left to be opened the 6th of January in the morning.
I just wanted to recreate a very early morning, with kids excited around the Christmas tree opening their presents, as the parents smile at their joy and happiness while having breakfast sitting on the livingroom's floor <3

Chough - Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax
While its black plumage identifies it as a crow, the chough (pronounced 'chuff') has a red bill and legs unlike any other member of the crow family. It is restricted to the west of the British Isles.
It readily displays its mastery of flight with wonderful aerial displays of diving and swooping. This Schedule 1 species can be found in flocks in autumn and winter.
There are two species of passerine birds commonly called chough that constitute the genus Pyrrhocorax of the Corvidae (crow) family of birds. These are the red-billed chough (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax), and the Alpine chough (or yellow-billed chough) (Pyrrhocorax graculus). The white-winged chough of Australia, despite its name, is not a true chough but rather a member of the family Corcoracidae and only distantly related.
The choughs have black plumage and brightly coloured legs, feet, and bills, and are resident in the mountains of southern Eurasia and North Africa. They have long broad wings and perform spectacular aerobatics. Both species pair for life and display fidelity to their breeding sites, which are usually caves or crevices in a cliff face. They build a lined stick nest and lay three to five eggs. They feed, usually in flocks, on short grazed grassland, taking mainly invertebrate prey, supplemented by vegetable material or food from human habitation, especially in winter.

Gannets are seabirds comprising the genus Morus, in the family Sulidae, closely related to boobies. "Gannet" is derived from Old English ganot, ultimately from the same Old Germanic root as "gander".[1] Morus is derived from Ancient Greek moros, "foolish", due to the lack of fear shown by breeding gannets and boobies, allowing them to be easily killed

The smew is is closely related to mergansers and goldeneyes. This species breeds in the northern taiga of Europe and Asia. It needs trees for breeding. The smew lives on fish-rich lakes and slow rivers. As a migrant, it leaves its breeding areas and winters on sheltered coasts or inland lakes of the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, northern Germany and the Low Countries, with a small number reaching Great Britain. On lakes it prefers areas around the edges, often under small trees. It nests in tree holes, such as old woodpecker nests. It is a shy bird and flushes easily when disturbed.
Dill Plants: A Brief History Part of the Apiaceae family, dill is a tender annual in the same family as carrots. Its feathery appearance looks similar to fennel, but it’s actually more closely related to anise, caraway, parsley, and cilantro. The plant is believed to have originated in the Mediterranean area and Asia Minor.

well as the title says, its my entry for the Second Life Cracked photo contest . I dont think I ever had such a banging pain doing a picture before and I spent the last hours working on it. I'm still not satisfied with it but time's running and i need to enter it now i think.
I hope you like it.
I do feel like I need to explain myself on this, plus it's easy - I have nothing!
Have a great day! xoxo

Saint-Jorioz is a town in Haute-Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region, about ten kilometers south of Annecy.
The territory of the municipality of an area of 21 km² is located partly in the middle and high mountains, bounded to the west by the Semnoz massif which rises to 1660 m altitude and to the east by the west shore of Lake Annecy (443 m above sea level).
Inhabited since Neolithic times, traces of lakeside villages that were discovered in the 1980s, the site is crossed by a Roman road in antiquity, but a first village did not really develop in the 9th century with the establishment of a priory
Composed of many villages, the town that lived until then from agriculture and fishing became industrialized with the establishment of tileries that did not cease their activity until 1953. Meanwhile, Saint-Jorioz which belonged to the Duchy of Savoy has been attached to France in 1860.
The proximity of Annecy and the development of tourism related to the lake and the winter sports resorts that surround it during the second half of the 20th century boost the demography of the city, which now numbers almost 6,000 inhabitants.
Its beach, its port, its leisure linked to its preserved environment make Saint-Jorioz, which belongs to the Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park, a step or a popular tourist destination.
###
Due to a construction-related total closure of the Main-Weser-Bahn for the extension of the S-Bahn line S6 in the first two weeks of the Hessian Easter holidays 2023, additional trains were ordered by the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund as RE 16 between Friedberg (Hess) and Frankfurt (Main) to cover the traffic flows on Mondays to Fridays. These trains, consisting of class 245 locomotives with double-decker coaches, did not take the route via Hanau, but via the single-track line Friedberg (Hess) - Rosbach v d Höhe - Friedrichsdorf (Ts) and then via the "Homburger Bahn" to Frankfurt (Main) Hbf. Here we see 245 018 with RE 99041 Friedberg (Hess) - Frankfurt (Main) Hbf in Bad Homburg station, which it passes through without stopping. The impressive building of the Kaiserbahnhof (Homburg vor der Höhe was a popular summer residence of Kaiser Wilhelm II) was put into service on 26 October 1907 and forms a commendable backdrop for this train, which is not a common sight there.
Prunus serotina, commonly called black cherry, wild black cherry, rum cherry, or mountain black cherry, is a deciduous tree or shrub of the genus Prunus. Despite being called black cherry, it is not very closely related to the commonly cultivated cherries such as sweet cherry (P. avium), sour cherry (P. cerasus) and Japanese flowering cherries (P. serrulata, P. speciosa, P. sargentii, P. incisa, etc.) which belong to Prunus subg. Cerasus. Instead, P. serotina belongs to Prunus subg. Padus, a subgenus also including Eurasian bird cherry (P. padus) and chokecherry (P. virginiana). The species is widespread and common in North America and South America.
Cerasus. Натомість P. serotina належить до Prunus subg. Padus, підроду, що також включає євразійську пташину вишню (P. padus) та чорну вишню (P. virginiana). Цей вид широко поширений у Північній та Південній Америці.

One crazy thing I've been enjoying is *reviewing* some of the purchases I've made on Etsy; mostly charm/bead/seal related for my various projects. During this process I've discovered a passion for primitive jewelry making, inspired by some of the surprises which have arrived. I had no idea this would be so large, so have treated myself to an awesome necklace! I was able to place a very small faux pearl in the head of the square, wire maze . . . and yes, an amazing *find* . . . Phenomenal price . . . under $3.00! I'm hooked!

This decorative fruit, related to the tomato, is most commonly known in English as Cape gooseberry, goldenberry, or Peruvian groundcherry. However it is also called Inca berry, poha berry, husk cherry, or simply physalis. It's not only pretty, it's also good for you, containing plenty of vitamin C, vitamin A (as beta-carotene), and various B-complex vitamins, including B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), and B3 (niacin). It also provides Vitamin E and Vitamin K1. It even tastes good!
The kalij pheasant is closely related to the silver pheasant, and the two are known to hybridize. The placement of the taxa L. l. lineata and L. l. crawfurdi has been a matter of dispute, with some treating them as subspecies of the kalij pheasant and others as subspecies of the silver pheasant. They have greyish legs as in the kalij pheasant, but their plumage is closer to that of some subspecies of the silver pheasant. Additionally, as the silver pheasant, L. l. lineata and L. l. crawfurdi are found east of the Irrawaddy River, a major zoogeographic barrier, while all other subspecies of the kalij pheasant are found west of the river (L. l. oatesi, a subspecies of the kalij pheasant, has sometimes been reported as occurring east of that river, but this is incorrect). Based on mtDNA, it was recently confirmed that L. l. lineata and L. l. crawfurdi should be regarded as subspecies of the kalij pheasant.
