Lifting off from Nellis during Red Flag 20-2. The Southwest jet in the background is headed for McCarron.
I went on a photographic walk from Berkswell near Balsall Common and came across the Sixteen acre wood. This is alongside the HS2 line. It struck me how much disruption is taking place. I had not encountered it close up other than the inconvenience of traffic changes around the M42 and A452. This part of the wood will become an embankment. Here we see the wood is being cleared and every so often the trees or paths are marked with red flags/circles or blue circles. I documented the area with photography as it will change.

A German soldier holds up the red army flag.
Despite the fact that the soldier has a hand grenade on his belt, it seems that the Leica III hanging around his neck means that he is an SS-Kriegsberichter, i.e. men of the information company.
The red flag is obviously a landmark that is placed on the terrain, where the tip of the attack is advancing. Probably many flag bearers were killed in that mission.

This day was even grayer, windier, and colder than the day before. My wife decided not to even get out of the car. We stuck around for a few hours but no B-1s so we decided to head out since we had a long drive to El Centro, CA.
These photos are from Red Flag 21-2 held at Nellis AFB outside Las Vegas, Nevada in early March 2021.
