Life does not go on
(A late realization from Memorial Day)
It is not true that life goes on. People keep saying it like it's true, but it's not. When someone dies on you, your life, as you knew it, ends. Your family is still yours, but it's different. Your parents are different; the order in which you are seated around the dinner table is different, the way you remember that trip to Greece, with the funny photo album that turned into a memorial album.
It is not true that life goes on. People ask you a simple question like "how are you?", and you know they mean to say "we know" or "we're here for you". Whenever you are sad everyone is there to cheer you up and there is no way to tell them that you don't want a support group, but rather to be left alone for an hour under the blanket.
It is not true that life goes on. Even you are no longer the way you were. You are the one who has lost someone. When you see "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" on TV you remember only with whom you saw it first, back then, at the old Esther Movie Theatre, that has since been brought down. When you laugh, they say that you overcame. If you go away for more than two weeks they say you ran away.
It is not true that life goes on. Even your past is re-edited, every time you tell that story of how you took the bus to Bloomfield Stadium to see the derby, you contemplate if you want to call him "my brother", or "my late brother", or "my brother may he rest in peace". Sometimes you just take him out of the story completely, to avoid the embarrassment from everyone. Every so often you meet someone who's been abroad for a long time, and when he asks how "he" is doing, you answer that he is no longer with us, and of course, in the end you need to comfort him and say that life goes on. But it doesn't.
It is not true that life goes on. It stops, and starts all over again. Differently.

Looking around for fall colors on our "back yard", we ended up in a parking lot off the main road, which had an array of bright red trees, the evening light falling on it added an artistic finesse to the scene. It was yet another of those moments of realization when you wonder how much beauty there's right at your door step to capture. Fall in December... what more can you ask for ?

The ultimate goal of human life should be to achieve liberation which is possible after Self Realization that is knowing ‘Who am I’ and for realization an Enlightened person is needed. If you do not get the opportunity of Self Realization then use your mind, body and speech to help others. If you give happiness, then you get happiness.

Principles for the realization of the temporary project 'Campus' - with a life of 5 years - were:
· Mont table> removable> remo table
· Use of containers
· Use of industrially manufactured products
· Reuse of building elements
· Experiments in function space and construction
Reflected these essential ideas in the realized object:
· Building elements are fully equipped with demountable connections
· Modular design with seven shipping containers 20 ft (6 m)
· Standard products: concrete slabs (Stelcon) for foundation, kasgevelsysteem for the greenhouse-like gap
· Formwork girders as supports between the containers, scrap wood floors
· Dealing with limited dimensions of containers, Space spiral staircase with a crooked pole
Experiences with the use of the object:
· Mounted vertically containers give additional problems in connections and seals
· Second components are labor intensive and maintenance
De Realiteit, Almere NL - On the south bank of the Noorderplassen in Almere is situated “De Realiteit” (The Reality). An unusual name for a street. Seventeen winning designs of the Second Competition of “De Fantasie” (The Fantasy) were built here in 1986. A year earlier the foundation organized "Fantasy" a design entitled "Temporary Housing". The prizes consisted of land, plots of approximately 20x20 m, where the winners, 17 could realize their ideas. By their nature offered the opportunity to contest the freest design, especially as the building codes did not have to be observed. Concepts such as removable, repositionable, limited life were central. The decommissioning of the building regulations meant that the awarded works were to be considered temporary. The participants knew in advance that the normal funding, namely the mortgage, was not available because of the transitory character. Nevertheless today (after 27 years) the houses are still present and inhabited and most are in good condition.

Before taking Gnan there was a lot of clashes with my family. But after doing pratikraman, the clashes that were ocurring for the past 20 years with my in-laws and husband all stopped. Even my mother-in-law who is not religious started watching Niruma's satsang.

On my way home I came to the realization that today was the day I am going to pick up my rental gear for the wedding I'm shooting this weekend. A 5d Mk II a 14 f2.8 and what should have been a 85 1.2 (I forgot to request it and they ended up being out of stock (unhappiness). Anyway. After coming to the realization that I had gear to pick up and play with I got really excited and my cousin and I went out to shoot some bridges (a project he is working on for the Art Institute. I took him to Triangle Park and the St. Johns bridge. Though it has been shot many times by other people I have actually only come once or twice. I tried to channel my inner Zeb not quite there but thats ok!
It was a ton of fun playing with the 14 fisheye and 5d Mark 2 (Both offer such clarity it is so freaking awesome!). I thought I was about to lean over and possibly convert to Nikon but I now know I need a 5d Mk2… it is awesome!
Long story short…we had a great evening in the park!
Update: I don't know what it is but there really is no comparison to the version I have in my aperture library. Maybe there is some compression when it is uploaded using the flickr plug-in. Becuase its just not as sharp or as clean as that version in the sky.

I had a disturbing realization today. In the cat food aisle at the grocery, I was looking at the other cat ladies, all frumpy, talking to themselves and purchasing more cat food than people food. I suddenly realized that I too am one of those cat ladies.
I only put the pepper and tomato in the cart for color.
But possibly the best moment of shopping - the best moment all day (yesterday was unbeatable as far as great days go) - was the checkout conversation. I was in the checkout with my favorite checker, Alvin. A very young and surprisingly handsome and intelligent bag boy named James admonished Alvin for asking me if I needed to replace anyone at home...he was willing to be the replacer. Alvin responds with an attempt at a Mom Joke:
Alvin: Hey, watch out James. Your Mom, um, told me today...I mean this morning...she said you should get to work on time.
James: That would be my step-mother. I don't got a mother no more.
So much for my evaluation of James' intelligence. And while I appreciate Alvin's attempt at the "I'm implying I slept with your mom" joke, it's bland and ill-timed delivery made James' response all the more tragic.
Happpiness from worldly things is like a loan which will have to be repaid. So if you wish such happiness keep readiness to repay. After self-realization, you can get permanent happiness from Soul, which is full of bliss. Yet repayment for past loans taken from previous lives will have to be made.

After Self-Realization, I felt inner peace in the event of a death of a family member, that happened before realizing the Self. The wave of emotions came and i realized it was that wave making me emotional and it was the circumstances that were meant to be like that. Neither the emotions nor the people connected to the situation could touch me anymore which was not the case before, and I felt complete peace thereafter.
