Protected roadside parcel in Grishin. Land faces eastward with a nice sunrise view over the snow and Ice Bay and is located in a scenic and quiet region. Very realistic winter environment. Ban lines are ok. Radio, house security, many prims!

We had some rainy days in the Swiss Alps when I visited my hometown Schuders last summer. After doing some errants I headed back to Schuders, and passed by this barn above Schiers, located not too far from Davos in the canton of Graubünden. It's fun taking photos in the rain.
I processed a realistic and a paintery HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Leaving Bacharach and on my way to Oberwessel I stopped on the opposite side of the Rhine from Kaub for a short photo break of the castles that this little town has to offer.
Burg Pfalzgrafenstein shown here began life as all castles on the Mittle Rhine as way for the rich to bilk the hard working river merchants of their hard earned coins as toll payment for their safe passage.
The Castle is strategically located on an island on the right side of the Rhine where once upon a time this was the only clear channel for boats to pass.
Merchants sandwiched between the river castle and the fortified town and the left channel impassable for large ships, had no choice but to submit and pay the toll or face a hard fight from two opposing strongholds.
Disclaimer: Not trying to be realistic in my editing there is enough realism in the world, my style is a mix of painterly and romanticism as well as a work in progress.

Sand Cats are threatened by habitat loss, hunting and collection for the pet trade.

The English duo Snik completed this piece by the Aberdeen harbour. It depicts yet one more of their iconic frozen scenes of a dynamic action, which in this a girl being dragged into the air by small birds using a piece of rope. To hold fast is to keep strong or to hold on during stormy times. A sailing term, its a nice reference to the harbour location of their mural. Although they use stencils to lay out their pieces they also free hand and add into each piece which gives their work its unique look.
Their works are so detailed and realistic that it’s hard to believe that are made with stencils.

Artist duo Snik, aka Laura and Nik, are equally at home working in the studio or on the street. Their murals – created using traditional craft methods and layers of intricate handcut stencils – can be seen from Aberdeen to Miami and Hong Kong.
There is beauty in decay. There is beauty in places that are not perfect. And there are a lot of abandoned spaces. We want to show that these spaces still have a life to them, still have a purpose and meaning. They potentially have more years in them than people realise.
These places shouldn’t just be forgotten about. And they also shouldn’t be knocked down and redeveloped every five minutes. People can be very quick to write something off if it’s not new and shiny these days.

Jet lagged, I woke up early, and started an hike before sunrise up the mountain from my hometown Schuders, located in the Swiss Alps near the Austrian border. I reached the top of the mountain ridge shortly after sunrise.
