Not the most exciting of photos but it does sum up my day pretty well.

Spent today (a day off) deep cleaning the smaller bedroom, and part of that meant finally sorting through and tidying the bookshelves. The project took longer than I hoped, but it's done but I now have twelve bags of books to donate, and an excuse to buy new books...

Hope everyone is doing well.

Walter loves reading!

I read a couple books over the summer that I enjoyed (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Peter Pan) and I thought I'd make a vignette to commemorate it. It's a simple little scene, but I like it.

for the love of reading.....

Its true what they say.... Reading can be fun!

What is your favorite Jake and Amir?

2005-07-24 Last night we spoke of the re-appearance of strange red discs in the warm night time air. "UFOs," said one; "Weather baloons," exclaimed someone else. Apparently these enigmatic orbs flicker in the sky around the Fourth of July, atleast for the past couple of years. Someone seated furthest away from me at the table offered the following: "Famed UFO author Brent Siemens claims that he was abducted by aliens one dark night on the Fourth. He swears that he was transported into a spacecraft; one of the red discs themselves! Siemens did confess that he was probably drugged as his memory of the event is hazy. At any rate, he claims his wife could not account for his whereabouts for three hours on the night of the Fourth this past July". It was then I recalled seeing something in People Magazine about Brent Siemens' abductions. Apparently aliens are fascinated with him as they routinely abduct him. The article cited a chilling pattern of abduction times; always late on weekend nights between the hours of 1:30 AM and 2:00 AM. Brent Siemens often would not be returned from his abductors until late morning. Sometimes his body bore evidence of ghastly experiments that the aliens conducted on his skin. His neck would have patches of red bruising on it, no doubt from a mechanical octopus-like alien probe (or so claims Siemens). His back would be replete with long scratches, and a strange reddish oil-based substance was frequently rubbed around his mouth and lips. Siemens also alleges to have undergone a series of decontamination bathings, probably so as not to infect the alien air with earthly bacteria which could be harmful to them. Oddly enough, the decontamination fluid bore an uncanny resemblance to a popular Mervyn's Department Store perfume. Everyone at the table nodded. We all agreed that it was a perplexing tale. Someone else recalled that Siemens' wife eventually left him. I shook my head in disgust. Apparently she was a little sick-n-tired of her husband's weekend abductions. How could she leave him? The poor man lives day to day never knowing when the red discs will come for him again. When our group of friends departed for their homes, we were each more than a little un-nerved. I walked quickly to my car with both eyes on the sky.

first attempt at stop-motion that I made this weekend.

Kingsley has been doing a lot of "reading" aloud lately. And she sticks her finger between the next two pages! Here she asked if she could bring her Zoe book along on our walk.

We went to the library yesterday and she asked if she could see the Caillou book I saw on the shelf. And then she proceeded to "read" it aloud!

"The greatest gift is the passion for reading. It is cheap, it consoles, it distracts, it excites, it gives you knowledge of the world and experience of a wide kind."

Next weekend I might have 2 girls from France and a Colombian PhD student from France staying over. Right now there is Justin from Philly. In October there will be Huntz, graphic designer from LA.

I am maybe (most likely) driving to Kingston to see Caitlin with Rebecca on Oct. 12th weekend.

i am going to Asia in December. we are trying to decide between Vietnam or Singapore.

After I am done there, I am going to Calgary for 10 days to hang out with family and maybe see mountains that are rocky. Skiing?

In February I am invited to go to Philadelphia and NYC for reading week. I might buy myself a really sweet road bike while i'm there, with the help of Justin, bike savant.

In May to June I will go to Quebec City to learn more French. This time Lyndsey will come.

In July I'm driving to BC to be reunited with Michelle and Caitlin. We are going to reserve a month for that and stop anywhere we want along the way. I never want to stay in a hotel during this trip.

But for now I am doing my homework, as you can see here.
