Only for you see, I uploaded this photo (not very well focused) because this tiny rare orchid was inside a glass terrarium.
It is so delicate and the size of each flower is no more than 5 milimeters. A rare species found in the Atlantic Forest, particularly in the region between Rio and São Paulo.
Rare species are often much appreciated by orchid growers, despite of not been as beautiful as other species.

When I stopped admiring the source of the Rhine and looked behind me, I saw these protected Alpine beauties, the large (5 - 20cm) Alpine asters! Not just one, but a whole bunch. I had to climb higher on a steep slope, but I absolutely wanted a good shot of them.
we very rarely get snow on Vancouver Island.
but since i returned from India we have been gripped in the coldest winter weather in memory ..
normally i am bragging about flowers in February . ha ha

Rare to have both sons home over the Thanksgiving holiday, so we spent a pleasant hour at the billiard parlor. . .Lynn snapped this image on her cellphone.
Hello Everyone!
The Ram's Head Lady Slipper is very small, about the size of the end of my thumb. They are tough to spot because of their diminutive size and because they easily camouflage into the forest setting. These native orchids are rare and are found specifically within coniferous forests and bogs. This was found along the Brokenhead Wetland Interpretive Trail which is found within the boreal forest about an hour's drive north of Winnipeg. This native orchid is listed as "of special concern" in every state and province for which it occurs.
Thank you so much for stopping by and for your comments. I do love hearing from you! Have a wonderful day and weekend!

I captured the spiral from the ground floor.
The architect designed another staircase to get from ground floor to second floor.
So there is the chance to photograph this staircase without interfering influences like a down coming spiral and railings.

“She is a rare soul, she has this infectious energy that makes you want to run next to her, she belonged to no one but herself & to anyone that was yet understand themselves, found the missing pieces in her presence.” ― Nikki Rowe

The colorful Lewis’s woodpecker is a rare visitor to our area and It is a “life bird” for me…never seen one before! It was named after Meriwether Lewis who first saw the bird in 1805 while on his famous westward journey with William Clark. According to Cornell, it is a woodpecker in name, but it forages like a flycatcher and flies like a crow! Santa Margarita, CA
Tucked away in Western Australia’s Yalgorup National Park, within the quiet shallows of Lake Clifton, lies something truly extraordinary — almost more science fiction than fact. These knobbly, unassuming formations are **thrombolites**: living, rock-like structures built by ancient microbial communities.
What makes them so special? Thrombolites are incredibly rare! They’re among the few surviving examples on Earth of life forms similar to those that began oxygenating our planet billions of years ago. According to wiki, unlike the more well-known stromatolites, which grow in tidy layers, thrombolites have a "clotted, chaotic internal structure" — a bit like my brain on most days! They’re messy, ancient, and utterly fascinating.
As we stood on the boardwalk, watching the sun filter through the nutrient-rich waters, which is just the way these microorganisms like it, we felt small. I was staring at the descendants of the planet’s earliest architects of breathable air, still quietly persisting in a world that has changed beyond recognition.
They’ve survived for millennia, but they’re fragile — vulnerable to rising salinity, pollution, and, sadly, careless human behaviour. Just last year, they suffered significant damage after many visitors, in pursuit of the aurora australis, wandered into restricted areas. The result? Extensive harm to the thrombolites and their delicate microbial mats. Makes you almost ashamed to be a photographer! I’ll be polite and refrain from calling them what I really think of them ..... *deep breaths*
I consider ourselves lucky, truly lucky, to see them still hanging on, whispering stories from the origins of life - rare, ancient & alive. I hope more people come to understand their importance, and that these incredible rare living fossils not only survive but thrive.
Sorry for the rant. Have a great end to the week! Thanks kindly for any likes/comments, they are always appreciated.

I bet it's rare that you have dinner at a restaurant that's so colorful.
we had dinner there yesterday.

Wir hatten gestern dort unser Abendessen.

CN 2417 leads train 435 under the signals at Paris Junction.
With so many C40-8M's up for sale, stored or going for scrap, having this unit leading was quite the treat.
This Forster's Tern (Sterna forsteri) stopped by for a rest at Peace Valley Park, New Britain PA. one morning and I was lucky to see it on the railing at the spillway by the dam.
Happy Sunday morning all,
Every now and then one gets a rare and unexpected sighting on safari. This particular morning was one such occasion.
This is an image of a honey badger, a nocturnal animal which is very rarely seen during daylight hours. It was a first for me and a first for our guide as well. We came across a den and had the pleasure of actually seeing two of them. The one featured here was the active one, running back and forth in a repetitive pattern between a point in the distance and the den.
Getting this image required figuring out the behavioural pattern and getting as low down in the vehicle as possible. Doing these things allowed one to be able to enter the world of this fascinating and rarely seen animal.

Song:
We discovered a great pawpaw patch at a WMA north of here that Zebra swallowtails love. This species prefers to nectar on tiny blossoms like these (ID??) and wild blueberry in early Spring. This shot is not brightened nor saturated ... I wanted to show how their red spots naturally pop out at you - as if a child had opened a box of giant bright crayons and gone to work!
Grab shot in fading light...spotted this Reed Bunting while I was doing the dishes...only the 2nd time in 8 years I have seen one out back.
