The Parish Church of St Oswald
Rand is a small village in the district of West Lindsey and the ancient wapentake of Wraggoe, about 9 miles north-east from the county town of Lincoln.
The parish church is dedicated to St Oswald and dates back to the 14th century, the chancel was rebuilt in 1862.

The church at Rand is dedicated to St Oswald and has been standing in remote fields since the early 14th century. The present building is of grey stone, with a slated roof. It has a broad west tower that was built in the 15th century. The bell openings are Decorated and the west window has a Norman monster head. The nave and chancel were restored during the last century but the chancel arch is over 500 years old. There is a stone pulpit with a brass rail. The octagonal font is also of stone, with carvings, and was re-set in 1902 to commemorate the end of the Boer War. The head moulds of the east window are early 14th century but the communion rail and the choir stalls are Victorian. There is an Estey American organ (Harmonium).
The church possesses a wonderful array of monuments, both in brass and stone. in 1890, portions of 6 brasses found loose in the vestry were grouped and refixed on a slab on the north wall of the nave. The most outstanding part of this memorial is an Elizabethan lady with hands clasped and wearing a gown with a beautifully embroidered front panel, with a ruff and cap. There is a bust of another lady similarly attired and the legs and feet of a knight in plate armour with spurs, the feet resting on a lion. An oblong plate at the foot of the memorial bears the following inscription:-
"Here lyeth Willyam Metham of Bolington Esqvier who was sonne of Robarte Metham second sonne of Sir Thomas Metham of Cave Knight He had 4 wyves the first was the widdow of one Good the second was Ellen the davghter of Mr Whyttington and he had by hir issue Charles Svsan and Anne the third Fravncs davghter to Willyam Lord Willovghby of Parham and by her had issve Catheren and Dorotie He dyed the 12 of Ianvary 1590 and the 66 yeare of his age"
There are three shields of arms with inscriptions on a small oblong plate to three children of William Metham - Anne, married to William Welcum of Lincolne; Susan, married to Henry Winfeilde of Nocton; and Charles, married to Anne, daughter of Robert Dimock of Skrelsbye. There is also a shield with mantling crests and quarterings of Metham.
In the north wall of the chancel is the late 13th century effigy of a lady. Her head is upon a pillow, supported at each end by an angel, her hands are placed together as if in prayer and her feet are resting on a dog. This monument is thought to have been inspired by the Angel Choir in Lincoln Cathedral. There are five monuments in the nave - three in the north wall and two in the south. The first on the north side is to Sir Vincent Fulnetby, Kn, 1606, his armorial bearing being the three crescents and a chief ermine. Several shields of arms are included.
The second is to Sir Sapcote Harrington, 1630. He and his wife are represented kneeling at a desk with three daughters and two sons beneath them.
The third is to Dame Dorothy Leigh, first wife of Sir Thos. Leigh of Ingoldsby, and afterwards to Chas. Metham, Esqre of Bullington.
In the south wall there is a monument to Anna Metham, she is represented kneeling amongst her children, 1604.
The other memorial on the south side is to Chas. Metham, Esq. He and his wife are kneeling at a desk (1628).

Making Water Filtration Affordable for Kenyan Households
Contaminated drinking water contributes to the deaths of some 750,000 children under the age of 5 every year due to diarrheal disease but simple filtration systems can prevent such tragedies. Working with the Safe Water and AIDS Project of Kenya, RAND Corporation is testing whether a “rent to own” payment plan, which allows consumers to pay for filters a little at a time using mobile phones, can help increase adoption of filters that would otherwise be unaffordable. Should the randomized control trial show that the project is successful, the “rent to own” payment plan could expand to other development products and settings.

Mostly Chestnut brown, but I *think* there's also bitter chocolate. IDK, the dark parts are what was left of Kii's hair mix. Also has golden blonde and platinum blond. Not really tri-colored like the alpha design, but I wanted something that would work as a generic Randi whenever.

Randal Howard "Rand" Paul (born January 7, 1963) is an American physician and politician from Kentucky. In office since 2011, Paul currently serves in the United States Senate as a member of the Republican Party. He is also a trained ophthalmologist, and is the middle son of former U.S. Representative and physician Ron Paul of Texas.
Paul has been considered a supporter of the Tea Party movement, and a vocal critic of the U.S. Federal Reserve. He has opposed NSA mass surveillance of Americans and supports reduced government spending and taxation. He describes himself as "100% pro-life" and has cosponsored legislation for equal protection of the right to life to individuals at "all stages of life."
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Paul attended Baylor University and is a graduate of the Duke University School of Medicine. Paul began practicing ophthalmology in 1993 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and established his own clinic in December 2007.
He is considered by some political analysts as a likely candidate for the Republican nomination for President in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Om stationsleder hos Falck i Randers Bjarne Jørgensen, 55 år, kan roligt konstateres, at han dels har været Falck en tro medarbejder, dels allerede har løst virkelig mange opgaver i skiftende strukturer.
Når Bjarne Jørgensen mandag blev hædret med Sophus Falcks Mindelegat, skyldes det den aktuelle indsats for, som det hedder i begrundelsen, »hans store engagement og arbejde med at skabe rammer og vilkår for unge med sociale og personlige problemer i Randers Kommune«. Et eksempel var genstand for en større omtale her i avisen for kort tid siden.
Selv understreger Bjarne Jørgensen, at han langt fra er alene om denne indsats:
»De vagthavende og redderne samt i høj grad også tillidsmanden er alle meget engageret i arbejdet,« fastslår Bjarne Jørgensen.
Tidligt i Falck
Bjarne Jørgensen, der er født i Gjern og har haft sin skolegang her og i Fårvang, blev oprindelig uddannet som automekaniker, dels i Gjern, dels i Silkeborg. Efter to år ved Livgarden, hvor Bjarne Jørgensen sluttede som sergent, blev han ansat hos Falck i Kjellerup.
Værnepligten sluttede den 30. juni 1978, og den 1. juli begyndte Bjarne Jørgensen at arbejde som redder.
Det hører med, at Bjarne Jørgensen allerede under sin værnepligt benyttede fridage til at køre med ud på Falck-opgaver med sine senere kolleger.
Den 1. november 1995 blev Bjarne Jørgensen udnævnt til stationsleder i Kjellerup.
Omkring år 2000 blev Bjarne Jørgensen også leder af Falckstationen i Aalestrup og senere tillige af Falck i Bjerringbro.
I 2003 blev Bjarne Jørgensen stationsleder i Viborg og var fortsat leder af stationen i Aalestrup samt ansvarlig for brandvæsenet under Falck i Kjellerup.
En ny udfordring kom i 2005, da Bjarne Jørgensen blev stationsleder i Silkeborg, stadig med brandvæsenet i Kjellerup under sig, og den 1. juni 2007 kom udnævnelsen til at være leder af den store Falckstation i Randers. Frem til udgangen af 2007 havde han fortsat ansvaret for brandvæsenet i Kjellerup.
Ny struktur
For lige godt et år siden fik Falck en ny struktur. Herefter er Bjarne Jørgensen foruden at være ansvarlig for driften af Falckstationen i Randers også leder af brandvæsenerne i Hinnerup, Hammel, Rønde og Hornslet. Under Falck i Randers hører også brandstationerne i Øster Tørslev, Langå og Kristrup.
I alt har Bjarne Jørgensen ca. 180 medarbejdere.
Projektet med de vanskeligt stillede unge er tidligere beskrevet, så her skal kun nævnes, at der normalt er tale om seks-otte ad gangen, som på forskellig måde får støtte, for eksempel til dette blot at stå op om morgenen.
Projektet sker i tæt samarbejde med Jobcentret ved Randers Kommune og med Sparekassen Kronjyllands eventchef, Peder Poulsen.
Bor ved stationen
Bjarne Jørgensen har ikke langt til arbejde, faktisk få sekunders gang, idet han bor i en villa på adressen Hadsundvej 59, som Falck i øvrigt ejer.
Bjarne Jørgensen har bofællesskab med social- og sundhedsassistent ved Regionshospitalet Viborg Marian Kastberg. Fra sit tidligere ægteskab har han sønnen Simon på 19 og datteren Cecilie på 15 år.
En pæn del af sin fritid bruger Bjarne Jørgensen i Falcks tjeneste, nemlig på Brandskolen på Langvang, hvor der uddannes nye brandfolk.
Desuden er Bjarne Jørgensen sammen med kolleger hos Falck med til at samle gamle ambulancer og brandbiler ind til Nicaragua.
Prisen blev overrakt af Falcks redningsdirektør Lars Vester Pedersen, i øvrigt søn af den tidligere stationsleder hos Falck i Randers Marius Vester Pedersen.
