Martinetito, Least Bittern (Ixobrychus exilis)
Estas en RD: Residente no Comun (Rnc)
también llamada avetorillo panamericano (Ixobrychus exilis) es una especie de ave pelecaniforme de la familia Ardeidae. Su área de distribución cubre la mayor parte del continente americano.
The least bittern (Ixobrychus exilis) is a small heron, the smallest member of the family Ardeidae found in the Americas.
The least bittern is an elusive bird. They spend much time straddling reeds. When alarmed, the least bittern freezes in place with its bill pointing up, turns its front and both eyes toward the source of alarm, and sometimes sways to resemble wind-blown marsh vegetation. This is perhaps a predator-avoidance behaviour, since its small size makes the bittern vulnerable to many potential predators. Thanks to its habit of perching among the reeds, the least bittern can feed from the surface of water that would be too deep for the wading strategy of other herons. The least bittern and much larger and different-looking American bittern often occupy the same wetlands but may have relatively little interaction because of differences in foraging habits, preferred prey, and timing of breeding cycles.
These birds nest in large marshes with dense vegetation from southern Canada to northern Argentina. The nest is a well-concealed platform built from cattails and other marsh vegetation. The female lays four or five eggs, in extreme cases from two to seven. The eggs are pale blue or green. Both parents feed the young by regurgitating food. A second brood is often produced in a season.

Plain Pigeon / Paloma Ceniza (Patagioenas inornata )
Status: Non Common Resident (Residente No Comun)
Near Threatened (Amenazada)
The plain pigeon / Paloma Ceniza (Patagioenas inornata) is a species of bird in the family Columbidae. It is found in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. Its natural habitats are forest, woodland, coastal desert, mangrove and swampy areas. It is threatened by habitat loss.
The plain pigeon is a large-bodied bird (38 cm [15 in]) that superficially resembles the common city pigeon. At a distance it appears pale blue-gray overall. The head, hind-neck, breast, and part of the folded wing are colored with a red-wine wash. When folded, the wing shows a white leading edge; in flight, it forms a conspicuous wing bar. Legs and feet are dark red. The female is slightly smaller and duller than the male. Juveniles are browner overall, with pale wing margins and dark eyes.
Three subspecies of the plain pigeon are recognized: P. i. inornata from Cuba and Hispaniola, P. i. exigua from Jamaica, and P. i. wetmorei from Puerto Rico.

Pato Cuchareta, Northern Shoveler / Spatula clypeata (Rnc) (M)
The northern shoveler (/ˈʃʌvələr/; Spatula clypeata), known simply in Britain as the shoveler, is a common and widespread duck. It breeds in northern areas of Europe and Asia and across most of North America
This species is unmistakable in the northern hemisphere due to its large spatulate bill. The breeding drake has an iridescent dark green head

Northern shovelers feed by dabbling for plant food, often by swinging its bill from side to side and using the bill to strain food from the water. They use their highly specialized bill (from which their name is derived) to forage for aquatic invertebrates – a carnivorous diet.

The Fort Worth, Texas mounted police look on as a Hillary Clinton mobile billboard rolls by during the RNC in Cleveland Ohio in July or 2016. I took this photo mainy because of the shapes and juxtapositions it offered. The dard (almost monochrome) horses against the purple background. The almost symetrical shpes of the horsese and riders. And finally the fact that these offers were there to protect the RNC when a large banner with the Democratic presidential candiated rolls down the street.

On September 1st, 2008 an estimated 15,000-20,000 people joined to march against the RNC in St. Paul, MN.

G868 RNC is a Volvo B10M-60 / VanHool C49Ft new in February 1990 to Shearings and acquired from them by Bakers in January 1993. It has subsequently been reregistered RJI5716 and later 340MYA since Sept 2000. It has received a more modern front end and has been reseated to C70F with three and two seating for school contract work. It was renumbered from 7 to 57 around March 2019.
It was initially used on the London services as seen here in Radstock in March 1993 and in 2021 has now been with Bakers longer than anything else in the fleet. It was running on Backwell schools until July 2021 but has since been SORN.
