Das Wort Shaka, begleitet von einer typischen Handhaltung, bei der die geschlossene Faust mit abgespreiztem Daumen und kleinem Finger gehoben wird, ist eine ganz allgemein auf Hawaii und per Übernahme durch die dortigen Surfer auch unter diesen Sportlern gebräuchliche Geste, die zu verschiedenen Anlässen gebraucht wird und etwa so viel bedeutet wie „Cool!“, „Locker!“, „In Ordnung!“, „Gute Welle“. Ursprünglich steht es für die zwischen diesen Fingern symbolisch gespannte Hängematte (hang loose, wie die Surfer sagen).

The first Southern Swell of 2013 on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii. Sandy Beach was offering Monster Waves, lots of white wash, churning up the sand and surfers / body boarders that were brave enough to head out. Loving the surf yesterday!
Went back to Sandy's Beach, Oahu, Hawaii yesterday afternoon to enjoy the Southern Swell and was rewarded with a pretty sunset and of course some awesome waves. Surfers, Body Boarders and Photographers were all having some fun. #ilovehawaii and the beach! Aloha
With my board by my side and the golden horizon stretching ahead, every step toward the water is filled with anticipation. Kona Beach is one of those rare places in Second Life where the waves, the light, and the atmosphere come together to create unforgettable moments.

I was shooting the pier one afternoon and randomly met Leandra who let me do an impromptu photoshoot of her surfing. Here she is paddling in with what looks to be a shark over her foot there. Hence this ended our shoot, but we had a blast chatting and I am trying to help her out...see my comment below!
