Basilica of San Vitale, UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE. It was consecrated in 547 AD to St. Vitale, a martyr of the first centuries of Christianity. The basilica is composed of a central plan, and it features structural elements that clearly differentiate it from any other church with a basilica plan.

Art is everywhere - in the columns, the ceiling and the friezes of Ravenna's 6th Century AD Basilica di Sant Apollinare Nuovo. The mosaics are also superb.

Thanks and see you there

CSX train X370 is seen rolling through a sweeping S-curve at BG109 in Ravenna, Ohio led by a very interesting pair of locomotives native to total opposite sides of North America. The lead unit, BCOL 4642, is one of only four of its kind ever built for the BC Rail, three of which still retain their original colors. The trailing unit, KCS 4023 is part of a small and quickly dwindling group of SD70ACe's that are still painted in the discontinued grey ghost scheme of the KCS. Thanks to all who provided info on this train and to Uncle Wak for recommending this spot.

Kids coming down the trail to play in ice cold water. Such fun! Ravenna Creek has had parts of it daylighted, releasing it from its urban concrete underground dungeons to delight dogs and children.

There is a poem by Denise Levertov at the entrance to the park. I thought I would find it in her opus, but no, So I'll photograph it next time

MUSEO NAZIONALE.

NATIONAL MUSEUM.

The National Museum of Ravenna is housed in the former Benedictine monastery of San Vitale. The atmosphere of the two Renaissance cloisters and the abbey spaces, accessible via the eighteenth-century staircase, lends a particularly pleasant experience.

The original core of the museum's holdings consists of collections formed during the eighteenth century by the Camaldolese monks of Classe, later enriched through donations, acquisitions, finds, and excavations.
