Generally quite dark compared to other orb web spiders and can be found close to water where their webs are spun on fencing, buildings and bridges and rarely on vegetation. Close to a river near me where I live a river flows under a road in a tunnel these Orbweb spiders can be found and seen in their webs close to the lights that help to light up the pathway where they have the best of both worlds, warmth from the lights where I have even seen the adults spiders here in February with snow outside and plus their prey such as moths and flies are attracted to the lights also. Its amazing to see their webs so close together and not eating each other, nature can be truly amazing at times.
The smallest of three brothers and the last surviving brother, whilst he is full of battle scars, he has oodles of presence! Early morning is interesting as he and Kasanga have quite the roaring conversation!!

Usually in winter, I photograph birds outside, but the kowhai tree flowering last spring was incredible... and the best view is from inside, where it's elevated and I can photograph straight into the tree. So I spent some time photographing through double glazing! Not my favourite glass... but... the glimpse into birdworld was too strong to resist :-)
Silvereyes are very communal birds, often visiting in small family groups and pairs. Some preening pairs are family, some couples, and some just dating ;-) If one preens too roughly the moment is soon over!
I glimpsed this pair through my lcd quite far back in the tree... I didn't see them at all with my bare eyes. They were there maybe only a minute, but seeing minutes like these makes a lot of happiness :-)

We went quite far into the swamps in search of a sunrise shooting location. It was our mistake, along the way we missed a couple of pretty good ones in search of the best one. Therefore, we met the dawn at a rather boring location
Quite desolate and weather beaten on a Wyoming landscape - this old outbuilding survives.
(They say there are more Pronghorn Antelope in Wyoming than people, also they are the only American Antelope.)
The Pradillo Dam Waterfall is quite close to the Purgatorio waterfall, so you can pass through both with a circular route. But if we want to go direct and not walk too much, we will leave the recreational area La Isla. Because of its proximity, this is a good option to go with children. Following the path along the Lozoya River, you will soon reach the old reservoir, whose wide waterfall used to serve the old light factory. At the top of the noisy waterfall, the landscape is reflected in a quiet reservoir surrounded by pine trees, showing an idyllic picture of nature.
La Cascada de la Presa del Pradillo está bastante cerca de la cascada del Purgatorio, por lo que se puede pasar por ambas con una ruta circular. Pero si queremos ir directos y no caminar demasiado, partiremos del área recreativa La Isla. Por su proximidad, esta es una buena opción para ir con niños. Siguiendo el camino junto al río Lozoya, enseguida se llega al antiguo embalse, cuyo ancho salto de agua sirvió para la antigua fábrica de luz. A fairly warm October is ending, and we can feel the chill of November approaching. These little asters or Michaelmas daisies in Erba Park have been able to hold on until now, but their color has lost its summer brightness, and they are fading fast. The annual cycle moves on . . . Similar shots with a 35mm prime didn't turn out quite as well, so here's one with the kit zoom (on my backup camera). [DSC06261_lr_2000]

Here's our orange coloured male House Finch (Carpodacus mexicanus) I find this little guy quite photogenic!
This was one of those shots when you looked at the original thumbnail I thought was a bad quality shot until you take a couple sips of your favorite caffeinated beverage and do some work with your photo software.
Quite a famous place in Lisbon near the tram N28 stop. Nearby the descent begins down to the Alfama district.
(Haliaeetus leucocephalus). This young bald eagle was quite unconcerned by me standing at the bottom of his tree!
A group shot of these beautifully coloured & patterned waders (complete with photo-bombing Lapwing).
Quite a hard crop, so this image is a little noisy, but I rather like this early morning scene.

I dug out an old and very cheap watch. It is quite dead which makes me sad as it was beautiful for summer. When I did my close up I noticed all the little lines going out from the middle, I never saw them before. So I tried to do them justice by choosing this section of the watch face.

I'm quite sure this charming little least flycatcher is wondering "Now which way did that tasty flying ant queen just go?" New field ant queens were filling the air tonight in some brushy oak savanna habitat as they flew off to start new colonies but many didn't get too far as this least flycatcher was joined by eastern wood-pewees, eastern kingbirds cedar waxwings and several swallow species that made escape practically impossible.
It was quite a scary experience for a chicken-hearted-guy like me as my two boatmen struggled up the lesser gorges of the great Yangtze River .
Photographed in the 1990s in negative film and the print was recently scanned to produce this digital version .
Quite amusing watching these burying their winter stash but always finding time for a snack in between
A large non-parasitic cuckoo endemic to the Indian Subcontinent. The bird is pretty large - maybe 40-45 cms and is quite famous for its beauty. This is also known as "Lipstick bird" for its reddish beak and beautiful eyelashes.
It habitat is the dry scrub land, forest edges and is often sighted on the ground hunting for insects. The birds are quite shy and behaviours are hard to predict - so it is tough to sight them at the same location again and again. On this day though, we hit the jackpot - spent an hour roughly with 2 birds and at times they got too close to get a full length shot. Luckily they were flying perch to perch continuously, so managed to get a few good flight shots.

One of the two Avadavats found in India, one being Red and other being Green. These are endemic to India and are incredibly rare to sight. The birds are fast disappearing due to rampant wild life trade of these birds where it is known as Green Waxbill.. The birds are currently categorized as "Vulnerable" in IUCN List and found only in a few places across the country.
The birds are around 10 cms long and always forage in flocks. A fellow birder found them quite by chance and we made a beeline to that place to get a glimpse of this beauty. The bird was foraging in open fields and it was impossible to get a view of it from far. We started walking very slowly and carefully only to see them appear right in front of our eyes and fly away into the bush.

Quite an unusual Spring. Nearly everything bloomed early here in the south and this was one of the last redbuds to be found anywhere.
Keel billed Toucan, (Ramphastos sulfuratus ), seen in the cloud forest of Costa Rica
The keel-billed toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus), also known as sulfur-breasted toucan, keel toucan, or rainbow-billed toucan, is a colorful Latin American member of the toucan family. It is the national bird of Belize. The species is found in tropical jungles from southern Mexico to Colombia. It is an omnivorous forest bird that feeds on fruits, seeds, insects, invertebrates, lizards, snakes, and small birds and their eggs.
Quite a rarity this far north in West Texas, this bird visited hummingbird feeders on private property in Nolan County, TX.
This Barred Owl was quite active occasionally flying low over a marshy field. In the short time we watched it did make one catch, likely a vole. Conditions, dark and cloudy with occasional snow.

It is quite amazing how much fish a great blue heron can consume during its morning feed, and how much it can swallow at once. In this image the blue heron I had been photographing just caught a large catfish which was about to be swallowed whole.
I quite liked the lines of clouds leading your eye out to sea.

The Metro in Shanghai is quite impressive. 18 lines, 381 stations with daily 10-13 million commuters. There is a speed train to the airport which can travel up to 450km/ hour.
We were staying on outskirts of Shanghai, but using the Metro turned out to be quite easy. Toronto subway is about 60 year old, and about 59 years behind Shanghai in technology. The first line in Shanghai was build 1995. Since 2010 they are building one line every year. In Toronto we have basically 3 lines and little is being build at the moment.

The quite breathtaking view from the Pinnacle summit, certainly worth the walk. I had to wait though to get an image without the daredevil "insta crowd" posing on that closest ledge. Shudder ... the cries of "I'm soooo freaking scared" were ringing out loud and clear for all to hear. My internal dialogue was something like "And so you "freaking" should be" Some word/s might have been changed :)
The Canadian Pacific westbound "pickup" exits Woodstock, Ontario with four SW1200RS pups wide open making a run at the grade west of town. I sure wish I could insert a soundtrack with this image, as it was quite a show - June 6, 1976.
Drosera intermedia (Mittlere Sonnentau) struggling in a dried up bog at Wareham Forest in Dorset. Even the roots are visible as water levels have fallen quite drastically due to much reduced rain fall combined with high temperatures !
