The lake has always been legendary in Albany. From ice skating festivals during the winter, to fishing during the summer.
The lakehouse offered much to both the residents and visitors. It had a cafeteria indoors and a scenic patio where park-goers could view the rowhouses on Madison Avenue and/or rent a paddleboat to travel the lake for up to an hour.
This was, and is, the most popular view from the Madison Avenue entrance. There exist seven entrances to this wonderland.
Designed by EH Wigley for John Goode and Sons manufacturers of gold chain. Described as being in the "free Jacobethan" style! Planned wth three retail units on the ground floor and workshops above.
Ernest Wigley designed other buildings in the city including this one.

This is only one of the byproducts from what I consider the largest weeds in the world - the Monkey Pod tree. 12 months a year, these trees are defecating on our streets, sidewalks and in large part - our yards. Current mess is the leaves and the actual "monkey pods" - these dark pods have a set of seeds that can withstand the blow of a ball-peen hammer and the whole mess is held together with almost clear, sticky tar like sap. When squished on, they split open and glue themselves to the bottom of your shoe or vehicle tires.
If I remember the sequence, next will be these little scrunched up leaves which are also very sticky. After that, will be the "blooms" which are little bristles that get wrapped around everything.
The branches of a monkey pod tree are very weak, so when a strong wind blows, they routinely break off. Luckily I have never been hit on the head by one of the larger branches (3" - 4" in diameter and up to 10' long) but have had one of the pods drop on my head - saw stars for a couple minutes.
The putrid smell from this wet rotting mess of tree poop can be smelled 100 yards away and it makes a mucky mess which attracts flies, mosquitoes and several other undesireables.
All the crap these trees drop on your vehicle is devastating as well. The leaves and bristles get caught in every crevice and jam up the drainage paths, keeping moisture in/on the body of your vehicle (accelerates rusting).
Did I mention I don't like these trees - at all - and would wipe them from the face of the earth if I had my way?

This is my dirty 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The thing is, it JUST finished a trip through the Automatic Car Wash at the Tony AutoPlex. I had to wait in line to get the wash done longer than it would have taken me to hose it off myself and get the same quality results.
BTW, the level of dirty this car has is directly related to a couple of my other "Complaint Department" photos. The majority of what is adhered to the sides and undercarriage of every car in my neighborhood is the product of "Monkey Pod" trees.

This is a safety hazard. The algae growing on the sidewalk is extremely slippery and goes all the way across. The only way to avoid it is to walk in the grass/mud.
Been this way for a couple of months now... I think the orange cone in the grass is there to mark a muddy spot so that the guys our Home Owners' Association pays to maintain the common areas (like this one) won't get their lawn tractor stuck in the mud. Maybe they should just MAINTAIN the area and fix the leaky sprinkler system? Would eliminate the algae, the mud and waste less water - all with one action...
