A juvenile carpet python we 'unearthed' in the garden yesterday.
Yesterday to 9am we had 60 mm rain and then more through the day. This little guy obviously got washed out of his wintering spot.
He is on the old weldmesh frame we use for the cherry tomatoes in summer, and as they are all finished we decided to clean it off and get ready for next year.
Warwick reached out to move it and saw him wriggle and got a hell of a shock! (P1010301)

This is a sub-adult Bismarck ringed python. The hatchlings are bright orange with black stripes. As they get older the orange dulls but they gain a beautiful rainbow-like color which can easily be seen in the sun. This one is a male named Nightshade.

Area around my house is thickly vegetated and sparsely populated.
One morning during my routine run… near our house I spotted something moving at the edge of the road…. it was still a bit dark, on getting closer I was astounded! to see a big Python sticking out from ground on a closer look I found that it was half out and rest inside the ground trying to wriggle out but in vain…it was stuck and couldn’t move. I called the forest officer to rescue this reptile. The big boy was rescued and released in forest. Later we found that the Python had got inside a underground water pipeline somehow and managed to dig up to surface but half way through he got stuck since he had swallowed a rabbit And his body was swelled up mid way .
A burmese python (Python molurus bivitattus) hatchling caught in Everglades National Park.
As researchers in the Park, we are permitted to capture these snakes and turn them over to the Park. Beautiful and sweet little animals, but I'm glad we were able to remove this one from the population.
