Two days before returning from Suriname I was engaged in a phone conversation with Debby while standing on the street. At a given moment I decided to go lean on the fence. As I approached, this little bugger was literally staring me in the face as if desperately wanting to embrace his long lost friend! Several adrenaline rushes, and some D90 clicks later we got a hold of him.
And then came the moment that I decided to kiss the... Python. :-)

participated today in the Annual Meeting of the Idaho Herpetological Society held on the campus of Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. "Richard" is a Royal (ball) python (Python regius), a native of the savannah lands of west Africa. He hatched in my home 11 years ago. He was the last of the litter to come out of the egg and his spine was/is severely deformed. The deformity possibly was caused by the egg having uneven heat in the incubator. Femaie pythons actually incubate their eggs by coiling around them and twitching their bodies. I removed the eggs from the femaie and placed them in an incubator. This lovely lady is a Stimsons Python Antaresia stimsoni. The Stimsons python is a relatively small python in comparison with other Australian python species.
The Stimsons natural distribution range would probably be the largest distribution range of any Australian python. Within this huge distribution range there are several recognized morphs. These morphs were probably the result of environmental differences e.g. habitat, prey and climate differences, over thousands of years.
Generally speaking the Stimsons python is well suited as a captive pet. The temperament of these pythons is quite placid and besides the odd exception they are normally amendable to handling.
This lovely lady Roxanne belongs to the neighbours across the road from my parents. Trev has had her for about 12 years now and in that time she has grown quite a bit!

A juvenile carpet python we 'unearthed' in the garden yesterday.
Yesterday to 9am we had 60 mm rain and then more through the day. This little guy obviously got washed out of his wintering spot.
He is on the old weldmesh frame we use for the cherry tomatoes in summer, and as they are all finished we decided to clean it off and get ready for next year.
Warwick reached out to move it and saw him wriggle and got a hell of a shock! (P1010301)
This python was ginormous!!!! it was hard to get a good perspective of how large he really was.
