Jesus powers: Activate!
I wonder if this was around when he grabbed a projection screen from the ceiling and pulled it down. In the name of science, he conducted an experiment and determined it's not possible for the microphone to pick up your singing, if you put a projection screen between it and your mouth.

Jared was totally crazy! Played 2 new songs, but mostly old stuff. Jared kicked John The Canadien in the forehead, haha. He also almost knocked Clint down by going all crazy and going into the crowd. Multiple timeshe had his microphone so far from the stage that random people in the crowd had to detangle themselves from the cord. At the end of the show, he totally spazzed out and stood on the bar, laid on the floor, etc, etc. It was pretty awesome. For someone who is totally sober, he is one of the least sober acting frontmen I've ever seen perform live...

Last night I had the opportunity to check something off my photographic bucket list that I've been wanting to shoot for quite some time. Model and fire dancer Solstice Moon did a fabulous job while I worked my way through various technical challenges, and an unexpected response from my strobes. I've still got quite a few images to process through, but this was one of my early favorites. I've also taken a critical look at my overall results, and while pleased, have already made a list of things to improve upon in the future.
Is God powerless

Step into the ring
And look around.
Feel that humid night air
Seep into the ground.
Let loose, have fun!
Scream out the heat
Of your anger and feer.

Beat of life
Coursing through the ether
In it dark rhythm.

A Solent Camera Club evening shoot at Rudmore roundabout in Portsmouth. The fire poi in this position reminded me somewhat of a water diviner (a profession whose services are decidedly not in demand this "summer").
Hand held, 1.6 seconds to capture the flames and a couple of flashes on the ground either side of her triggered wirelessly to freeze the artist.
The blue lighting is cool. That's JSun in the corner. Insert Losing My Religion joke here.

BACKSTORY: Chemlab / 16 Volt / Left Spine Down concert. We arrived while 16 Volt was playing. Our 2nd time seeing Chemlab. Met up with John, saw Lauren & Andy, got moshed into by Dana, hung out at my place and drank and watched cartoons afterward, with JSun & John.
Jared was totally crazy! Played 2 new songs, but mostly old stuff. Jared kicked John The Canadien in the forehead, haha. He also almost knocked Clint down by going all crazy and going into the crowd. Multiple times he had his microphone so far from the stage that random people in the crowd had to detangle themselves from the cord. At the end of the show, he totally spazzed out and stood on the bar, laid on the floor, etc, etc. It was pretty awesome. For someone who is totally sober, he is one of the least sober acting frontmen I've ever seen perform live...
SETLIST:Suicide Jag
Exile On Mainline
Pyromance
Chemical Halo
Solar Max [new song]
Darkroom [new song]
Vera Blue
Blunt Force Trauma
Codeine, Glue & You
Summer Of Hate

A burning lens seared through time
It stretched out to pull me in
A vortex of flame
Linked to a discordant cirque.

Pulsing through the humid night air
A driving rhythm pushes the heat ever higher.
Shaking and quaking,
Aching and breaking.
That tribal beat quickens the pulse
And I pray this night never ends.

That fiery wurm of war and hatred
Tightened its grip on the world around us.
Futures burned and multitudes of lives wasted
While we worry about celebrity and faith.

Scorn that cuts to the quick
Shorn of hubris by that disdainful look,
It snapped me back to those
Uncertain early teen insecurities.
Meanwhile…
She had no idea of my doubt

As she slid across the dance floor
(always expressive)
While moving to that dank beat..

Palmistry, or chiromancy (also spelled cheiromancy; from Greek kheir (χεῖρ, ός; “hand”) and manteia (μαντεία, ας; “divination”)), is the claim of characterization and foretelling the future through the study of the palm, also known as palm reading or chirology. The practice is found all over the world, with numerous cultural variations. Those who practice chiromancy are generally called palmists, palm readers, hand readers, hand analysts, or chirologists.
There are many ― often conflicting ― interpretations of various lines and palmar features across various schools of palmistry. These contradictions between different interpretations, as well as the lack of empirical support for palmistry's predictions, contribute to palmistry's perception as a pseudoscience among academics.
Palmistry is a practice common to many different places on the Eurasian landmass; it has been practised in the cultures of India, Tibet, China, Persia, Sumeria, ancient Israel and Babylonia.
The acupuncturist Yoshiaki Omura describes its roots in Hindu astrology (known in Sanskrit as jyotish), Chinese Yijing (I Ching), and Roma (Gypsy) fortune tellers. Several thousand years ago, the Hindu sage Valmiki is thought to have written a book comprising 567 stanzas, the title of which translates in English as The Teachings of Valmiki Maharshi on Male Palmistry. From India, the art of palmistry spread to China, Tibet, Egypt, Persia and to other countries in Europe. From India, palmistry progressed to Greece where Anaxagoras practiced it. Aristotle (384–322 B.C.E.) discovered a treatise on the subject of palmistry on an altar of Hermes, which he then presented to Alexander the Great (356–323 B.C.E.), who took great interest in examining the character of his officers by analyzing the lines on their hands.
During the Middle Ages the art of palmistry was actively suppressed by the Catholic Church as pagan superstition. In Renaissance magic, palmistry (known as "chiromancy") was classified as one of the seven "forbidden arts," along with necromancy, geomancy, aeromancy, pyromancy, hydromancy, and spatulamancy (scapulimancy).
Palmistry experienced a revival in the modern era starting with Captain Casimir Stanislas D'Arpentigny's publication La Chirognomie in 1839.
The Chirological Society of Great Britain was founded in London by Katherine St Hill in 1889 with the stated aim to advance and systematise the art of palmistry and to prevent charlatans from abusing the art. Edgar de Valcourt-Vermont (Comte de St Germain) founded the American Chirological Society in 1897.
A pivotal figure in the modern palmistry movement was the Irish William John Warner, known by his sobriquet, Cheiro. After studying under gurus in India, he set up a palmistry practice in London and enjoyed a wide following of famous clients from around the world, including famous celebrities like Mark Twain, W. T. Stead, Sarah Bernhardt, Mata Hari, Oscar Wilde, Grover Cleveland, Thomas Edison, the Prince of Wales, General Kitchener, William Ewart Gladstone, and Joseph Chamberlain. So popular was Cheiro as a "society palmist" that even those who were not believers in the occult had their hands read by him. The skeptical Mark Twain wrote in Cheiro's visitor's book that he had "...exposed my character to me with humiliating accuracy."
Edward Heron-Allen, an English polymath, published various works including the 1883 book, Palmistry - A Manual of Cheirosophy, which is still in print. There were attempts at formulating some sort of scientific basis for the art, most notably in the 1900 publication “The Laws of Scientific Hand Reading" by William G. Benham. (Wikipedia)

At the right a crowned figure armed with a sword stands triumphant over a fallen foe.
All of the above scenes are captured with a camera and not the eye. Pretty pictures in the flames have intrigued humans for as long as we have watched them. In the past the only record of the fire was the ashes and the memory.
There are many variant forms of reading fires and of looking into the marks that are created by them. If all else fails enjoy the light and shadow, take on the warmth and share stories with others gathered around the fire, or tell your stories only to the flames and in sharing your stories give hope to dreams.
Pyromancy was formerly classified as one of the seven "Forbidden Arts," it is stated to derive from a combination of the Greek words pyros, “fire,” and manteia, “divination.” It is the art of divination by means of fire, or by signs derived from fire. There is far more than flame reading involved to this ancient fireside activity. A flickering shadow to some may seem to underlie the flame that struck it, yet the shadow is a progression cast from the light. The ashes left at the end of the fire may go some way towards showing the complete picture, or they may be the hidden conclusion to the whole operation.
Pyromancy Origin
Late Middle English ; earliest use found in John Gower (d. 1408), poet. From Middle French pyromance, piromance, pyromancie, pyromantie and its etymon post-classical Latin pyromantia from Hellenistic Greek πυρομαντεία (in a papyrus: the reading is doubtful) from ancient Greek πυρο- + -μαντεία.
Pyromancer Amanda Lee (Instagram: misshoopdidoo) performs at TFTI_LA in Downtown Los Angeles, California, on Jan. 9, 2020.
