On duty: a Goldhofer AST-2 Towbarless Aircraft Tractor is taxiing to the aircraft parking area in the southern part of the airport to pull one of the Asian planes to the gate. This can be China Eastern, Vietnam Airlines or Air China.
The AST-2 is Goldhofer´s third largest pushback truck. It is capable of pulling aircraft with a weight of up to 300 tons.

Activists with RAN, the Pushback Network, Occupy Charlotte, and a plethora of local labor and community organizations held a “funeral for democracy” in Charlotte, NC to mark the 2-year anniversary of the Citizens United supreme court decision, which has drowned American democracy in a flood of corporate cash. Activists processed to the base of Bank of America’s corporate headquarters bearing coffins for democracy, dignity, equality, and the environment.
The activists used the occasion to announce their plans to mobilize thousands of concerned citizens in a week of direct action resistance around Bank of America’s May shareholder meeting, which is to take place in Charlotte.

This is not the usual sight in Frankfurt! What a BIG surprise! Right now there is no scheduled Emirates A380 service to Frankfurt.
Emirates Airline Airbus A380-861 A6-EDJ has finished pushback from Terminal 2.
MSN 009 has had its first flight on 25.08.06 with the test registration F-WWEA and was the first A380 to carry the Engine Alliance GP7270 turbofans. It was used for testing until 2008. Originally intended for Etihad Airways, this jet was delivered to Emirates on 04.06.10 with GP7270. If Etihad was the customer, the engines would have been replaced by Rolls-Royce Trent 900 - we all know them since the Qantas incident. With RR engines the type is A380-841 instead of -861.
This is flight EK17 from Dubai (DXB) to Manchester (MAN). It was diverted to Frankfurt due to a medical emergency and is now continuing the flight to Manchester where it has arrived on 15:03 GMT - with a delay of 2 1/2h. Thanks for this information, Paul!.
In case you are interested: Manchester (MAN) is the 5th airport in Europe (and the first regional airport in the world) to see regular scheduled A380 services after LHR, CDG, ZRH and FRA. Flights EK17 (DXB-MAN) & EK18 (MAN-DXB) are operated since Sept. 1, 2010. The turnaround time in Manchester is just 1:40h - seems quite tough! Emirates is flying to Manchester since 1990. With EK17/18 they have replaced a Boeing 777-300(ER) and boosted capacity on this route by 75 seats a day.

Two new additions to my collection are the Schopf F59 aircraft tractor/pushback tug, and a Truck Firefighting Airfield Crash Rescue 2 Tonne 6x4 Mark 2, Range Rover (TACR2).
The Schopf F59 is a 1:76 scale, 3D printed model by Ray Rimes. The F59 is an all wheel drive, medium aircraft tractor, apparently designed to manoeuvre narrow body regional aircraft. I have added a set of chocks and a fire extinguisher, glazed front and back and painted.
The Range Rover TACR2 is a diecast model by Oxford, also 1:76 scale. Originally bearing military VRM plates, and with “Royal Air Force” on the sides, an RAF roundel and Union Flag on the rear. I removed these with cotton buds and nail polish remover. I added the thin yellow line along the sides, painted the blue warning light orange, added two blue warning lights and applied civilian VRM plates (which in reality belong on a minibus). This will primarily be found as part of the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) team on the Barra layout.
This means my airport support vehicle/equipment collection now consists of - Two tractor tugs, two tow bars, one ground power unit, and one ARFF TACR2.
Now for something really different...
For those that follow my ramblings and are not aware, in addition to being a full time photographer, I work 15-20 hours a week for United Airlines. Some days I am in a white shirt & tie greeting passengers at the ticket counter. Some mornings I am in what I refer to as my "village people" outfit pushing airplanes around & gently tossing baggage. Since this morning it was a record 11 degrees (F) outside in Austin Texas, of course, I was out on the ramp. I snapped this photo on my iPhone to send to my wife while I was waiting for the deicing crew to finish clearing the frost off the wings. She asked that I post it, so here it is. Just a little self portrait on a cold winter day.

Lufthansa Airbus A340-313E D-AIFA Dorsten is towed towards the parking area in Frankfurt by a Goldhofer AST-2 towbarless aircraft tractor. It has arrived earlier today as flight LH483 from Tampa (TPA).
MSN 352 has had its first flight on 20.06.00 with the test registration F-WWJU and was delivered to LH on 25.08.00.
The jet is powered by 4x CFMI CFM56-5C4 turbofans and has a cabin layout with 8x First, 48x Business and 165x Economy Class seats.
This aircraft was destroyed by a fire caused by a pushback truck during a transport in Frankfurt on June 11, 2018 and was written off due to the severity of the fire.

Lufthansa’s ultra-modern aircraft arrived in the Hungarian capital to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the German airline launching its first regular flight to four CEE cities including Belgrade, Budapest, Bucharest and Zagreb.
Following a tradition of nearly 40 years set by Boeing 737, 747 Jumbo and the world’s largest passenger aircraft Airbus A380, Lufthansa is now the first airline to present the most state-of-the-art passenger plane in the world in Hungary.

MSN 729 has had its first flight on 14.02.06 with the test registration F-WWKR and was delivered to Etihad on 24.04.06.
The jet is powered by 2x Rolls-Royce Trent 772B-60 turbofans and has a cabin layout with 22 Business and 240 Economy Class seats.
This is flight EY2 to Abu Dhabi (AUH).
