In September 1958, The Public Establishment for Installation of La Défense (EPAD) buildings (of which the Esso Tower was the very first) were built and began to slowly replace the city's factories, shanties, and even a few farms.

Unique cast in the Halifax Public Gardens clawing their way out as had been sacrificed to the earth.
Jeepneys of Siquijor, Philippines
The first 'jeepneys', the main public transport in many Philippine cities, as well as between regional centers, were modified SUVs that the US military abandoned in the country after World War II. Customized with Filipino details, they sport chrome, colorful headlights, radio antennas, paintings of the Virgin Mary or comic book characters. Service routes are written on the sides of the vehicle.

Arguably one of the best vantage points to view Melbourne's city skyline. This is taken from as far as the public can walk along the St Kilda pier. The pier itself extends further toward to city. Maybe I'll get to admire the view from the end of the pier one day.

It's funny when a photo you think is pretty average in the scheme of things becomes one of the most viewed! I like this but think I have better in my photostream, yet it's by far my most viewed picture! How strange! Maybe it's because it stands out in a small view because of the red. Explore #251 on Jan 17th 09.

The University Church of St Mary the Virgin is an Anglican church in Oxford situated on the north side of the High Street. It is the centre from which the University of Oxford grew and its parish consists almost exclusively of university and college buildings. St Mary's possesses an eccentric Baroque porch, and a spire which is claimed by some church historians to be one of the most beautiful in England. Radcliffe Square lies to the north and to the east is the southern end of Catte Street. The 13th-century tower is open to the public for a fee and provides good views across the heart of the historic university city, especially Radcliffe Square, the Radcliffe Camera, Brasenose College, Oxford and All Souls College.

Rock Creek sustained the most severe damage of all hatcheries. With the exception of the Rock Ed Education Center, all buildings and employee housing were either destroyed or severely damaged by the Archie Creek Fire. Staff access has been more limited than at other facilities due a number of hazards around the site including downed trees and power lines. Some hazards were eliminated to allow staff to get in Wednesday (Sept. 16), remove about 700 remaining adult spring Chinook and summer steelhead and move them to Cole Rivers Hatchery with the intent to spawn and collect enough eggs to meet Rock Creek’s production goals. Staff estimates 400,000 juvenile fish were lost and although the extent of fish loss is currently unknown, we expect to know more later.

En la visita al Conjunto Arqueológico de Itálica recorrerá sus calles porticadas, sus majestuosas domus, como la “Casa de los Pájaros” o la “Casa del Planetario” con sus espectaculares mosaicos y construcciones como las termas, el Traianeum, el “Edificio de la Exedra” y el “Edificio de Neptuno”, así como, el espléndido anfiteatro romano, uno de los más grande del Imperio con capacidad para unos 25.000 espectadores.

Market Day stalls and end of trading for the day. This is my home town of Newcastle-under-Lyme. Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre (traffic free zone) hosts a market on six days a week and operates from 9am to 4pm each day selling a wide range of goods. From 1871 there was a cattle market too, housed in the Smithfield
Cattle Market. But sadly that moved out of town to the outskirts of the town of Market Drayton some years ago, more space required.

Market and Guild Hall info from BBC - Domesday Reloaded.
The first market place was in Upper
Green now the A34 Road. This moved to
the High Street about 1280. The whole of
the present High Street would have been
a Large Market place. In 1203 the
original Sunday Market was moved to
Saturday, then to Monday in 1590. In the
early 19th century, Saturday became a 2nd
market day and later Friday a 3rd. In
1853 the first covered market was built
to supplement the portable street
market and to offer a halfway house
between shop and stall. This was
replaced in 1963 by a more up-to-date
covered market.
Guildhall
Newcastle Guildhall was built by an
employers association in about 1235. It
was then that Henry III recognised that
Newcastle was more than an ordinary
market town and so granted the Townsman
the right to form a Guild Merchant. They
quickly became the most powerful
force, both economically and
politically, in Newcastle. Later on when
a town council emerged to administer
the town the Guild became less
important, but in a continuing memorial
the Town Councils meeting place has
continued to be called a Guildhall
rather than a Town Hall. The Guildhall
today, which is a little to the south
of the original site, is used for many
functions. Various organisations hire it
for many things from Jumble Sales to
plays. Whatever its many uses today it
is still a beautiful building which
dominates the Newcastle Market Square.
