This wasn't the photo I had planned to night at all.
But I got phone call from my dad. We're heading to his new house in a few weeks, and he was asking what foods we eat, and what to get our son for his upcoming birthday.
And the other news.... he's going on the 9th for a biopsy of something they found on his prostrate. This is when the worry part of me kicks in.
Yes, it could absolutely be nothing at all, and he is fine. But this is my daddy, this is someone I have loved my entire life - even through all of the estrangement we've been through. Not to mention, this is the man whose brother is right now in the hospital recovering from chemotheraphy, having his entire immune system destroyed, and having a bone marrow transplant due to cancer.... for a SECOND time.
I have hope that it's nothing at all, but last time I talked to him, the levels they test for this, in his blood, were elevated. So the possibility is there. Here's to that hope, though.

it was a year ago yesterday that my little beefy lost his battle with prostrate cancer.
he put up a good fight & even though the vet only gave him a few weeks,
he surprised us all and made it through to the end of summer.
maybe it was all the special pampering, or the occasional steak or hamburger my dad would sneak him, or quite possibly the endless bowls of cottage cheese infused with flaxseed oil we'd begun to feed him. a remedy we'd discovered after googling to learn more about canine prostate cancer.
our family was privileged to have the little guy in our lives for the short 7 years he had on this planet.
we still miss him dearly.
We had an awefully chipper time in Toowoomba today with the Movebmer Tweed Ride, not to Tweed Heads (heaven forbid) but dressed in tweed and a jolly good time was had by all. The serious side of this event is about the money raised for prostrate cancer and depression in men. The challenge, so ably met by the men, was to sport a mustache for the month of November. I like this picture because it so aptly portrays the style of the moment, cup of tea in hand, the paper tucked under the arm, a jaunty cap and tally-ho off we go. Congratulations to Justin Eastwell for organising the event. It was great to be a part of it.

Right now I'm not thinking of other shots I will take today… the most important for me is that I have completed one of my Movember goals.
I didn't hit a target for fundraising, but I did grow my 'stache, donate to a couple of friends and I talked with about 100 youth in four sessions about the reasons behind Movember and my personal reasons for participation having known some who have suffered from this form of cancer.
