This retired prosthetic eye measures 25mm (1") on the long side, the iris is 12mm in diameter.
Yes, as you can see the iris is actually painted by the ophthalmologist, note the brush strokes.
The "veins" are actually very fine strands of red thread.
This photograph is not cropped, and is slightly larger than 1:1 life-size, for a true-macro composition.

Bottom line, these work, and increase the quality of life of these permanent residents at Save Our Seabirds. They have to be reattached at least once a week because they are attached with first aid tape, etc. Until something can be devised with pins or something that can be permanently attached, this helps them so much.
