On Saturday 28th March 2009, Simon Buckley and Todd Barry began a circumnavigation of the world by motorcycle. They began their trip in Sydney, Australia where the first leg of their tour saw them heading for Canberra. Their route is also going to take in South East Asia, Japan, Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan and Eastern Europe. From there they will then head onto Canada and the USA, down through Central and South America, Antarctica and home via New Zealand in 2010. The core theme is 'with support, anything is possible'.

Question: Will this surgery completely remove my cancer?
Answer: LRP is often effective for localized prostate cancer. However, there’s always a possibility that cancer could return, requiring follow-up treatments such as radiation or hormone therapy.
Question: Will I be able to control my bladder after surgery?
Answer: Temporary urinary incontinence is common after LRP, but most patients regain control within a few months. Exercises like pelvic floor exercises (Kegels) are recommended to aid recovery.
Question: Will I need a catheter, and for how long?
Answer: Patients typically need a catheter for about 1–2 weeks after surgery to allow the bladder to heal. Some patients find this uncomfortable but manageable.

Answer: While LRP is less invasive than open surgery, some discomfort is expected. Patients often recover faster with less pain compared to open surgery. Full recovery usually takes 4–6 weeks.
Question: How long will I need to stay in the hospital?
Answer: The typical hospital stay after LRP is 4-5 days. Many patients can return home relatively quickly due to the minimally invasive nature of the procedure.
Question: What are the risks of surgery?
Answer: Risks include infection, bleeding, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and damage to surrounding organs. However, serious complications are relatively rare with experienced surgeons.
Question: Will the surgery affect my sexual function?
Answer: Erectile dysfunction can occur due to nerve damage, especially in cases where nerve-sparing surgery is not possible. Some patients recover erectile function over time, but for others, it may be permanent. Medications or devices may help.
Question: When can I return to work, exercise, and normal activities?
Answer: Most patients can return to light activities within 1–2 weeks and resume more strenuous tasks within 4–6 weeks, depending on their recovery.
Question: Will I have long-term side effects or need additional treatments?
Answer: Long-term outcomes vary, but most patients resume a normal quality of life. Regular follow-up with a doctor is essential to monitor for cancer recurrence and manage any lingering side effects.
