Picture Taken at Memento Mori
Thousands of fans lined the streets of Burnley (May 6th, 2025) as the town’s football club celebrated its return to the Premier League with a parade.
Fans lined the streets and red and blue plumes of smoke could be seen as crowds gathering outside Burnley Town Hall and along the open-top bus parade route.
The open-top bus parade then made its way through the town centre to Turf Moor to the delight of thousands of fans.
The parade today was after the Clarets clinched promotion with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United in April.
Burnley became the first side in English football history to finish with 100 points but not be crowned champions, yet they also conceded only 16 goals in 46 league games – bettering the record set by Liverpool, who conceded 16 across 42 matches in 1978-79.
Success this season means manager Scott has achieved three Championship promotions with three different teams, having previously guided Fulham and Bournemouth out of the second tier.
It also means Burnley will once again compete in the top flight having last been there in 2023/24 under Vincent Kompany.

The Prince of Wales Tower is the oldest martello tower in North America and is located in Point Pleasant Park. It was built in 1796 by Captain James Straton and was used as a redoubt (supplementary fortification) and a powder magazine. Restored, it was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1943.

Time (6:16am) to head back to the car as the day was just starting and I had lots to see.
The ruins are what’s left of Carbide Willson’s fertilizer plant, on the left is what is left of the generator station built on Meech Creek.
On the right is what remains of the acid condenser tower he built and believed it to be the perfect acid condensation plant, the first Phosphorus Acid Condensation Plant in the world.
On the left is the Generation Station with the water intake hole to divert water to the generator.

Carbide Willson:
Thomas Leopold Willson (1860–1915) was a Canadian inventor. He experimented with industrial and chemical processes, a lighting system that failed and electro-thermal reductions of metallic oxides, which resulted in marketing success. He is best known for the commercial process of making calcium carbide and using it to generate acetylene fuel. His process led to the formation of what became Union Carbide, now owned by Dow Chemical. In 1895, Willson developed a carbide industry on the Welland Canal in southern Ontario, plants in Ottawa, and in Shawinigan, Quebec.
Acetylene lighting became the standard for lighting on streets, in buildings, and in car headlamps and marine signals, making him a successful industrialist.
He settled in Ottawa in 1901 with a summer house on Meech Lake in Gatineau. He was the first automobile owner in Ottawa. Willson’s experiments resulted in over 70 patents. He also applied his innovative ideas in a number of industries: carbide, pulp and paper, railways, dams, and fertilizers.
One of Willson’s innovations involved the production of a nitrogen-based solid that could be used as fertilizer. Willson believed that the process could revolutionize agriculture and in 1912, set out to establish a fertilizer plant at Meech Lake. His project was financially backed by Interstate Chemical, an American fertilizer company, and James Buchanan Duke, the American tobacco and textile millionaire. Willson’s factory surpassed expectations. With so many projects, Willson was financially stretched. He missed a payment to Duke, who then seized Willson’s Meech Lake factory. Duke wasn’t interested in maintaining the factory and let it fall into ruin. Willson died a short time later, of a heart attack in 1915 while in New York attempting to raise money for industrial plans in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Mavillette Beach Provincial Park, located in the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores region, is a 1.5 km (1 mi) long sandy beach backed by fragile marram grass-covered dunes protected by boardwalks. Low tide exposes sand flats; then the hot sand warms the water.
Supervised swimming on Saturdays and Sundays in the months of July and August, the park facilities include change houses, vault toilets, freshwater taps, bird watching platforms, interpretive panels, and a parking area and boardwalks to access the beach.
Editor's note: Incredible photos from the ISS! This has also been added to the NASA Views Earth at Night photoset: www.flickr.com/photos/28634332@N05/sets/72157625188331491/. Also, this has been selected as a NASA Earth Observatory Image of the Day: earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=76201
The Midwestern United States at night with Aurora Borealis is featured in this image photographed by an Expedition 29 crew member on the International Space Station. The night skies viewed from the space station are illuminated with light from many sources. For example, the Midwestern United States presents a night-time appearance not unlike a patchwork quilt when viewed from orbit. The artificial light from human settlements appears everywhere with a characteristic yellow tinge in this photograph. But green light of the Aurora Borealis also appears strongly in this view (top left)—even seeming to be reflected off Earth's surface—in Canada—beneath the aurora. A small white patch of light is almost certainly lightning from a storm on the East coast (top right). Part of the International Space Station appears across the top of the image. This photograph highlights the Chicago, IL, metropolitan area as the largest cluster of lights at center, next to the dark patch of Lake Michigan. The other largest metropolitan areas include St. Louis, MO (lower right), Minneapolis--St. Paul, MN (left) and the Omaha--Council Bluffs region on the Nebraska--Iowa border (lower left). City light clusters give an immediate sense of relative city size; demographers have used night time satellite imagery to make estimates of city populations, especially in the developing world where city growth can be very rapid. The U.S. northeast seaboard lies in the most oblique (meaning viewed at an angle) part of the image at top right, just beyond the Appalachian Mts., a dark winding zone without major cities.
Scales change significantly in oblique views: Omaha is only 200 kilometers from Des Moines, but appears roughly the same distance from Minneapolis—which is actually 375 kilometers to the north of Des Moines. In addition to the major metropolitan areas, the rectangular NS/EW-oriented pattern of townships is clearly visible in the rural, lower left part of the image. This pattern instantly gives the sense of north orientation (toward the top left corner) and is a distinctive characteristic of the United States, so that ISS crew members can quickly know which continent they are flying over even at night. In contrast to the regular township pattern, interstate highways converge on St. Louis (e.g. Hwy 44), Chicago and other large cities, much like wheel spokes around a central hub. Rivers—major visual features in daylight—become almost invisible at night. The course of the Mississippi River appears as a slightly meandering zone from Minneapolis through St. Louis (dashed line)—the river course continues out of the lower right corner of the image.
