PHILMONT Debut EP Promo Advertice.
"Rising rock act Philmont’s rhinoceros emblazoned teaser EP certainly made listeners take notice in the summer of 2008 with the digital release of "Oh Snap". The album comes out with the additional track "The Ascension" on April 21, 2009. They are randomly named after a small town in New York. If you like up-tempo punk rock like The All-American Rejects, Fall Out Boy and Hawk Nelson, you should enjoy Philmont.
I’ve been enjoying the excitable opener “I Can’t Stand to Fall” since last year. The lyrical hook of “tear down these walls that separate us now” well represents Philmont’s overriding goal to always stay on the same page as God in every facet of life. The focus on spiritual matters is one of my favorite aspects of this solid debut EP. My other favorite song is “The Difference” This song addresses the difference between life as a Christian and life as a non-Christian. Our actions and words should reflect the difference that Christ has made in our lives. I also like the mix of a slower song like “Another Name” with the great guitar intro and lyrical intelligence of “My Hippocratic Oath”. The latter song parallels a doctor’s promise to always work in the patient’s best interest to God’s offer of salvation: “I can save your heart even though it’s destined to fail … I guarantee you’ll never make it out alive without me.”
Nice combination of songs and sound. I’m looking forward to a full album release in the future from this promising band. If you like Hawk Nelson, Nevertheless and Everyday Sunday, you’ll enjoy Philmont."
GROOVEPHACTORY nace en Abril 2003, es el resultado de la unión de músicos tinerfeños y músicos europeos de paso o afincados en las islas, Tras varios meses de consolidación como banda se establece la formación actual. Sándalo López, líder, productor, bajo, talkbox y voz (Alemania); Eric Francois Rohner saxo y voz (Suiza), Martin Schumacher, batería (Alemania); Francisco(Epi) Lorente, guitarra; Ventor Sánchez, percusión y voz; y Patricia Chevalley (Suiza) y Natalia Mylonás voces solistas , Michael "Dandy" Dandorfer guitarra (Alemania), Gilles Garin trompeta (París).
En poco tiempo se convierten en una banda de referencia no sólo en este ambiente sino también en toda la escena musical insular, tocando constantemente en todo su panorama, así como en circuitos locales en suiza y alemania.
En cuanto a nivel creativo-musical, GPH no puede ser encasillado en una definición puramente Funk. Ellos mismos deciden no etiquetarse y con ello romper muros establecidos en este mundo. Pero en el fondo su espíritu es eminentemente Funk, por lo que toda su creación respira gracias a esta filosofía musical inspirándose claramente en los grandes de este campo: George Duke, Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters, George Clinton, Earth wind and fire, y demás entidades influyentes en la música disco de los 70's. Pero, siendo coherentes con lo dicho, a pesar de esta condición existencial, GPH decide ir más allá y dejarse influenciar por nuevas corrientes musicales que no pasan desapercibidas en sus preferencias.
GPH se caracteriza por su originalidad y contundencia en el directo, ya que, el sólido conjunto es perfeccionado con las determinantes voces de sus cantantes que se encuentran arropadas con la seguridad y contundencia del groove de la banda. Pero sin dejar de destacar las virtuosas aportaciones de cada uno de sus componentes en beneficio del combo final.
Este nuevo trabajo saldrá a la venta a finales de junio y será presentado oficialmente en el festival canarias jazz & más heineken 2007.
