Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing.

Ben works on the Software Development Assistant (SDA) by Tietronix Software Inc. SDA is a web-based program which aims to provide tools and information to
assist software developers to develop quality software. The SDA isn't
a coding and analysis tool as many of the other packages represented
in research infusion are. Instead, it is time and process management
tool. Its purpose is to help delegate and manage the multitude if
individual tasks which must be completed in a large development
environment. All in all, it should ease the burden of remembering and
adhering to a software development process, while still reaping all of
the benefits thereof.
Such a tool is quite important to NASA due to the often complex design
process that goes into the creation of high assurance software
systems. In this sort of environment there are many pieces to the
development puzzle which much fall into place in a certain order. The
SDA should in theory provide a good deal of assistance at every step
of the process, and thus help NASA create better software.

This friday is the Stockton LITT program's annual bash -- a get together where all the LITT faculty cook food for our students and hand out awards. This year I'm going to cook crepes with my snazzy crepe maker. Tonight I did a little test run with three fillings -- apples and cinnamon, jambon et fromage, and strawberries and whipped cream. Mmmm.

Proposed project for the corner of 15th and Jackson in Oakland. I was trying to get this together, first as a project for Oakland Public Art Program's Open Proposals 2009-2010, and when that became too discouraging and bureaucratic, as a piece of guerrilla drop-art. But, doing that, I'd want to have it together for Pride Week, and time's too tight.
I've never clandestinely affixed colored felt to pavement before, and there are too many bugs to iron out. Additionally, speaking to my attorney yesterday, he pointed out that if I got caught, and if the city decided that it cost more than $400 to clean up, and the if the DA and the judge wanted to be dicks about it, I'd be looking at the f-word ("felony") and never be able to vote again.
I hate having to rationalize myself out of what, on the surface of it, ought to be a fun and decent lark. Stupid real world.

This photo was taken in Pucón, Chile, on our program's trip. Here we are learning about the native Mapuche people. They taught us about the native struggle to keep their land out of the hands of Spanish conquerers, and the continued fight to keep their land as property of the Mapuche. In this field, they taught us about Mapuche field hockey, which is a game that the Mapuche people play when there are conflicts, and is all about respect and fairness.

The Economic Opportunities Program’s Job Quality Fellowship aims to support and strengthen the work of leaders dedicated to expanding access to and availability of better quality jobs in our economy. At the beginning of October, EOP convened the 16 members of the fellowship’s inaugural cohort on the Aspen Meadows campus in Aspen, Colorado. The first of several meetings to take place over the next year, fellows discussed, debated, and collaborated on a host of crucial issues related to quality job access and availability. These are photos taken from that event.
