It hasn’t made it into the popular news channels much which is puzzling because the device, and its mission, is so very, very cool. On August 12, 2018, NASA will launch the Parker Solar Probe, a car-sized spacecraft with a mission to examine the Sun’s corona. It’s no small feat and will require the probe maintain speeds of 430,000 miles per hour as it whirls around the sun.

updated august 2013 was registered on a SORN but now back on the road as from December 2013 it been SORN Again as from September 2014 and it MOT Expired on the 27th of October 2014 and as of October 2022 it is still SORN since 2014

"...the new Probe was to share it's understructure with Mazda's MX-6 and 626. Ford concentrated on the interior and exterior styling, while Mazda engineered the engine and chassis. Technically speaking, the second generation Probe is 60% Mazda and 40% Ford. The Ford/Mazda team added 2 inches to the length of the new Probe as well as 4 inches to the width, while still managing to shave off 125 pounds." Wikipedia
This is a shot of the orbital probe that can be deployed. It is housed along the spine of the dorsal side of the spacecraft. The dome functions as the primary radar while attached to the ship.
It looks like the LCD controller board doesn't have any voltage running to these pads, which judging by their location, should be for backlighting parts. Oh well.

NORTH AMERICAN X-15A-2 (56-6671)
The X-15, designed to provide data on materials and human factors of high-speed, high-altitude flight, made the first manned probes into the lower edges of space. It was built for speeds up to 4,000 mph and altitudes of 50 miles, but these goals were exceeded on numerous occasions. Several X-15 pilots earned "astronaut" rating by attaining altitudes above 50 miles. The X-15 program contributed significantly to the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo projects.
The X-15 was carried aloft by a B-52 and was released at about 45,000 feet and 500 mph. Its rocket engine then fired for the first 80 to 120 seconds; the remainder of the 10 to 11 minute flight was powerless and ended with a 200 mph glide landing on a dry lake bed.
The first powered X-15 flight was made on September 17, 1959, and 199 flights were made between 1959 and 1968 by the three X-15s which were built. The No. 1 X-15 is at the National Air and Space Museum, Washington, D.C., and the No. 3 X-15 was destroyed in a crash. The No. 2 aircraft was retired to the USAF Museum in October 1969.

Always had a soft spot for these. Spotted this rather clean looking example in the town center. Nice to see one without rust.

I neglected to take photos of the process of drawing the stencil and cutting it out. I hope to do some more of these though, so I'll try to document it better in the future.
This photo shows the Freezer Paper already ironed into position on the shirt. I then took a toothbrush and painted the fabric paint onto the stencil.
