Democratic Functioning Of The Two Review Committees On Admission Anomalies and Fulfillment Of Reserved Category Seats: In the wake of the implementation of the OBC Reservation Act, this year's admission process saw massive anomalies and non-fulfillment of the legally mandated quotas in the .
various reserved categories because of the JNU administration 's unilateral and illegal interp~·e~atio~ of the MHRD's directive on OBC reservations. Following a JNUSU-Ied movement, the JNU admm1strat1on had agreed to form two committees: one to look into the entire admission process this year, and another to look into the modalities of ensuring OBC reservations. In total violation of the 25 August agreement which the administration signed with the JNUSU, the JNUSU bas not been given representation in the committee to look into the overall admission anomalies. Subsequently, in spite of JNUSU's repeated interventions, the JNUSU is still being kept in the dark about the status and functioning of these two committees. The JNU administration must tell us what is being done to ensure democratic functioning of these two committees. .
Such major violations in the admissions, as well as in the review process, of such a premier university are unacceptable to JNUSU and the JNU community at large. .
With regard to all these pressing issues, the JNU Administration has been consistently maintaining an attitude of silence and insensitivity. JNU students and teachers who care for the democratic functioning of the university are unanimous to ensure that the resources which are allocated to this university for ensuring its academic character and .
) the rights and facilities of the students are not pilfered, wasted and misappropriated. Similarly, the students who come -from deprived background and many far-off parts of the country face numerous difficulties in the face of inordinate delay in hostel allotment a well as the paltry amount and bureaucratic delays in the disbursal of fellowships. .
Citing the excuse of the unfortunate stay order of the Supreme Court on the JNUSU Elections, the JNU administration is seeking to deny the representation of JNUSU in the Academic Council Meeting of 24 Nov. '08 and thereby evading responsibility on many of these pending issues which are of such pressing importance to the student community. .
Universities arc essentially meant for the students and if student representation and concerns are kept out of the processes of democratic forums and deliberations it is bound to be counter productive. .
