With additional "Farewell" titles to mark the imminent retirement of the MD-11F from the Lufthansa Cargo fleet. Of a fleet that totalled 19 units, this was the last remaining one and it flew its final service on 16/17 October 2021, from Frankfurt to JFK and return. It had amassed some 95,500 flying hours by this time.

The Angel of Marye's Heights. Fredericksburg Battlefield, Fredericksburg, Virginia.
The events surrounding the story of The Angel of Marye's Heights took place at the first battle of Fredericksburg, VA in December 1862. The Union forces under General Ambrose E. Burnside planned to attack Richmond by way of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Frustrating delays in the Union forces allowed General Robert E. Lee to move General Longstreet's Corps, with General J. B. Kershaw's Brigade, directly into Burnside's planned path of attack. General Longstreet was then joined on his right by General "Stonewall" Jackson's Corps. Kershaw's Brigade was directly in the path of the Union Army gathered across the Rappahannock River, just outside Fredericksburg, Virginia. A young South Carolinian, Sergeant Richard Kirkland and his Company of the 2nd South Carolina were part of Kershaw's Brigade.
Burnside continued to recklessly throw divisions of Union soldiers across 400 yards of open field, under murderous massed artillery and musket fire. Sergeant Kirkland was among a section of riflemen six ranks deep, protected by a stone wall. The Confederates rained musket fire down on the advancing enemy soldiers, and by day's end nearly 6,300 dead or wounded Union soldiers lay along the front of the stone wall. That night the temperature dropped and snow fell over the field of dead and wounded soldiers.
By the next morning, Kirkland could no longer stand the cries of the wounded soldiers lying on the snow-covered ground, and in near-zero temperatures. He sought permission to provide some help to the wounded. Kirkland gathered up as many canteens of water as he could find, then jumped the stone wall and ran to the first wounded soldier he could reach. As he ran, rifle fire from Union sharpshooters threatened the good Samaritan. When it became obvious that his purpose was a mission of mercy, a Union officer shouted, "Cease fire! Don't shoot that man, he is too brave to die." Throughout the morning the young South Carolinian made trips back and forth from water well to wounded soldier, trying to provide some measure of comfort. Both Union and Confederate soldiers looked on with awe. It is not known how many men Kirkland was able to help, but those he helped and those who witnessed his act never forgot Sergeant Richard Kirkland of the 2nd Carolina. In fact, they immortalized him as "The Angel of Marye's Heights."
He later fought at Gettysburg were he was promoted to Lieutenant and were he witnessed the reversal of Confederate hopes.
The epilogue to the story is a sad one. Nine months later, on September 20, 1863, Richard R. Kirkland was mortally wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga, Tennessee. His body lies under the spreading trees in the Quaker cemetery in Camden, South Carolina. A large headstone reads, "Richard Kirkland, C.S.A. At Fredericksburg he risked his life to carry water to wounded and dying enemies, and at the Battle of Chickamauga laid down that life for his country. 1843-1863."
Lieutenant Richard Kirkland was 19 years old at the moment of his death.

First I would like to express my sincere thanks for all the messages and concern from people across the world who have contacted us regarding the reported earthquake that has hit Cornwall in the last 24 hours.
Very kind of you Lindsey and Sharon😂😂😂
Amongst the concerns shown may I immediately allay your fears and inform you Sharp’s Brewery is intact and fully operational, phew.🍻🍻🍻
Yes the TV and press have reported an earthquake shook West Cornwall measuring 2.2 magnitude, some residents reported hearing a sound like thunder, Radio Pasty presenter Rebeca Wills, from Helston added “There was a low rumble and there was like a sonic boom”, if only she knew.😉
However when Horace and Hoof tiptoed across the breakfast room floor this morning with singed eyebrows, tails, and professor style looks on their faces the game was up.😉
You see mains electricity had always been low on the agenda here in Cornwall, we have always prioritised free range alcohol, so we could be as happy as pigs in you know what. 🐷🍻🍻🍻
However one night there was a meeting held by many of the local village elders and they came to the conclusion we needed these services on demand, or on tap so to speak.⚡️⚡️⚡️💡💡💡
So under the cover of darkness Hoof and Horace set off down to Poldhu Cove near Mullion quipped with a set of jump leads and a few jubilee clips.🔌🔌🔌🔦🔦🔦
As this is a fair distance from where we live H & H had to stop halfway to take on alcohol, so the boys went into a pub, Hoof had the jump leads hanging around his neck, the bar man looked at Hoof and said “don’t start anything”.🍷🍷🍷
The boys had a few games of spoof with the locals as they always do, then following a few jokes and a healthy exchange of banter Hoof packed the cash they had relieved the locals of into his saddle bags and they were on their way again.💷💷💷
H & H rocked up at Poldhu Cove an area they had staked out on several previous occasions, and had soon uncovered the transatlantic power cable that comes in there.⚡️⚡️⚡️
If you remember Marconi made his first transatlantic signal from here.📻
So in no time the boys had connected the jump leads to the T A cable and into a near by sub station and no sooner than you could say Thomas Edison and there was an almighty flash followed by a big bang, unfortunately Horace had connected the positive lead to the negative cable, he had forgotten to put on his little reading glasses and white coat like a mini professor (thank you Gill).👓
Come on just a simple mistake, the leads and connections were quickly swapped over and we were good to go and the whole of Cornwall had mains electricity , and not an earthquake💡💡💡🔧🔨🔩🍻🍻🍻🐎🐷😂😂😂
Thank you all so much for viewing my images, the comments you leave are always so appreciated.
I trust you all have a lovely weekend irrespective of the weather, I will leave you with this thought, an old charecter in the village use to say “There is no such thing as bad weather, it is being inappropriately dressed”
🍻🍻🍻🍷🍷🍷🐎🐷😎😂😂😂

I was working on two of my photographic projects, then Carnival arrived, I put aside what I had done up until then, and so I created this group of photographs; they are shots taken during the Carnival which took place in Taormina center (Taormina alta) and in Trappitello (fraction of Taormina, the plain part of Taormina, located towards the hinterland; there is also Taormina seaside, but this part is not was affected by the Carnival). Carnival, from a photographic point of view, has always interested me not for its allegorical floats, not for its beautiful or refined masks, but for the people who find themselves "behind the masks", for their emotions, the their ability to have fun, to uninhibit themselves, even in front of the camera. I photographed a detail of the float dedicated to the mayor of Taormina, Cateno De Luca, I photographed boys and girls from the masked groups who paraded through the city streets, as well as boys and girls not belonging to any group, who had fun with clothes invented for the 'occasion; despite having placed heterogeneous photographs, I mostly followed a theme that refers to a work by Andy Warhol, an iconic figure of Pop Art as well as being one of the most important artists of the 20th century, ideally linking myself for its creation to the allegorical float of Pop Art of Taormina.
I conclude, I dedicate this work to the flicker-friend White Angel, hoping to please her.

……………….

Omaha Union Station (1931) was one of the first Art Deco train stations in the United States. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, the Station was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2016 (the designation noted that the Station "is one of the most distinctive and complete examples of Art Deco architecture in the nation. . . [and] outstandingly expresses the style’s innovative and diverse surface ornamentation inspired by the machine age.") See here for more on the station's architecture and history.
Omaha Union Station closed for rail service in the 1970s when a new Amtrak station opened nearby. The Station now houses the Durham Museum. As noted on the museum's website, the Durham showcases everything from "permanent exhibits highlighting the history of Omaha and its surrounding regions, to impressive traveling exhibitions from our national partners such as the Smithsonian Institution, the National Archives, the Library of Congress and the Field Museum."

Lincoln-Mercury News Bureau
Press Release, Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1954
“The most advanced design in a car capable of going into volume production is the Mercury Monterey XM-800, a four-passenger hardtop coupe now being shown by the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford Motor Company. Embodying features of both sports and ‘dream’ cars, the XM-800 is only 55.6 inches high. It has radically different exterior styling including a concave front grille, wrap-around windshield and integral bumpers. Individual contoured seats are divided by stationary arm rests containing a variety of controls. The car will be placed in actual production if public demand warrants, according to Benson Ford, vice president and general manager of Lincoln-Mercury.”
The XM-800 never went into actual production. Despite the initial plans and promotional material suggesting it was engineered for volume production, public demand did not warrant it. Instead, Ford decided to create the Edsel division to compete with Buick, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile.
The XM-800 remained a concept car and was later donated to the University of Michigan's Automotive Engineering Lab for training purposes. It was eventually restored and auctioned off in 2010, selling for the hefty sum of $429,000.

This image shows the southern terminator of the Moon in the vicinity of the South Pole. The image was captured on February 1, 2023, at 21:49 PST with a C9.25 Edge HD and ASI678mc.
Interestingly, the most recently named lunar feature, Mons Mouton, is visible in the image (see cropped labeled image ). This large mesa-like mountain (informally known as Leibnitz Beta) was named for NASA mathematician Melba Mouton. The NASA press release states that the feature rises 20,000 feet above its surroundings, although it is actually >10km (over 30,000ft) taller than the nearby crater floors as measured with Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter data (credit "Lunar QuickMap"). Mons Mouton is one of several proposed landing sites for Artemis III.
The image also includes the popular craters Tycho and Clavius, as well as the somewhat less well known yet impressive Moretus, which is over 5km deep with a central peak rising >2km.
